Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg is used for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders as part of an overall therapeutic concept for dementia syndromes.This includes memory problems, difficulty concentrating, depressed mood, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.It also helps to extend pain-free walking distance in cases of arterial occlusive disease in the limbs, also known as “intermittent claudication”.It can also be used for dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears caused by circulatory disorders or age-related regression processes.

Mode of action

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg contains a dry extract from the leaves of the ginkgo tree.This extract promotes the flow properties of the blood, improves oxygen uptake in the brain and strengthens the nerve cells.This increases performance and protects against age-related decline in performance.

1 Tablet of Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg contains 40 mg of Ginkgo biloba dry leaf extract, extracted with acetone 60% (m/m).

Other ingredients of Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg are: croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 1500, magnesium stearate, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, simeticon-alpha-hydro-omega-octadecyloxypoly(oxyethylene)-5-sorbic acid water, talc,Titanium dioxide, iron oxide hydrate.

Contraindications

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg must not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or by children under 18 years of age.In the case of depressive moods and headaches that do not occur in connection with dementia syndromes, as well as an increased tendency to bleeding, the product should only be used after consulting a doctor.

Dosage

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg is dosed according to the symptoms.Adults aged 18 and over take 1 - 2 tablets 3 times a day for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders.To extend pain-free walking distance in cases of peripheral arterial disease, adults aged 18 and over take 1 tablet 3 times a day or 2 tablets 2 times a day.For dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears, adults aged 18 and over take 1 tablet 3 times a day or 2 tablets 2 times a day.

Take Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg twice daily in the morning and evening, or once daily in the morning with sufficient liquid.

Intake

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg is intended to be taken orally.Do not take the medicine lying down and swallow it whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of drinking water.It is used when taken 3 times a day in the morning, at midday and in the evening, and when taken 2 times a day in the morning and evening.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the drug.In the case of a pathologically increased tendency to bleeding or simultaneous treatment with anticoagulant medicines, this medicine should only be used after consulting a doctor.Since there is evidence that preparations containing ginkgo could increase the risk of bleeding, this medicine should be discontinued before surgery as a precaution.Please inform your doctor in good time if you have taken the medicine so that he can decide how to proceed.

If you have a known seizure disorder (epilepsy), please consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg must not be taken during pregnancy. This medicine should not be used during breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.It is not known whether the ingredients of the extract pass into breast milk.

Notes

Ginkobil® ratiopharm 40 mg contains lactose and less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per film-coated tablet, which means it is almost “sodium-free”.
