The capsules "Kreon 10000" contain pancreatic powder from pigs with amylase, lipase and protease activity. They are used to treat digestive disorders due to insufficient function of the pancreas (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) and in cystic fibrosis. The capsules should be taken during or after a meal for optimal effect. The dosage depends on the severity of the digestive weakness and can range from 20,000 to 80,000 lipase units per meal. Children under 4 years of age should start with 1,000 lipase units per kg of body weight. Possible side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and rash.
