Instructions for use for Pvp jodatum ratiopharm ointment, 25 g
Area of application
The PVP-Jod-ratiopharm ointment contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine, which belongs to the group of disinfecting wound treatment agents. It can be used to treat cuts and abrasions, burns and scalds. It is also suitable for the treatment of infected and superinfected skin diseases as well as pressure and lower leg ulcers, such as decubitus and leg ulcers. The ointment can also be used for certain bacterial skin infections, so-called pyoderma.
Mode of action
The PVP-Jod-ratiopharm ointment is a brown, slightly translucent and viscous ointment with a characteristic iodine smell. It acts as an antiseptic and disinfectant by fighting and inactivating viruses, bacteria, fungi and some protozoa, bacterial spores and certain virus species. The ointment has an antimicrobial effect and promotes wound healing without germs and bacteria developing resistance.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
One gram of PVP-Iodine-ratiopharm ointment contains 100 milligrams of povidone-iodine, which corresponds to a poly[1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidon]-iodine complex with a content of 10 percent available iodine. The other ingredients of the ointment are Macrogol 400, Macrogol 4000 and purified water.
Contraindications
The PVP-Jod-ratiopharm ointment should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to iodine or any of the other ingredients of the ointment. This applies in particular to thyroid diseases, during treatment with radioactive iodine, to dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, to newborns and infants up to the age of 6 months, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Dosage
The ointment should be applied evenly to the area to be treated once or several times a day.If necessary, an additional bandage can be applied. The frequency and duration of use depends on the healing process, for example the degree of fluid secretion from the wound.
Intake
The PVP-Jod-ratiopharm ointment is intended for external use.It is applied several times a day if necessary, depending on the size of the area to be treated. For local, antiseptic-therapeutic use, the affected areas are completely coated.
Patient information
Particular caution is required when using the ointment as mercury iodide can cause chemical burns.Povidone-iodine should therefore not be used simultaneously or shortly afterwards with mercury derivatives.Due to the oxidizing effect of povidone-iodine, various diagnostic tests can lead to incorrect results. This applies, among other things, to the determination of hemoglobin and glucose as well as examinations of thyroid function. No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
The ointment should only be used up to the 9th week of pregnancy after careful consideration of the benefits and risks by the treating doctor. The ointment must not be used after the 9th week of pregnancy or during breastfeeding, as iodine crosses the placenta and passes into breast milk.
Notes
No prescription is required for this product. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of PVP-Jod-ratiopharm ointment is too strong or too weak.Make sure that the ointment does not come into contact with textiles, as stains can generally be removed with soap and water, or in stubborn cases with ammonia or sodium thiosulphate.Do not use the ointment after the expiry date stated on the package.
