The medicinal product "Magnesium Optopan" is a mineral preparation used to treat magnesium deficiency. The magnesium deficiency can lead to muscle activity disorders, such as neuromuscular disorders and calf cramps. The medicine consists of 250 mg of magnesium oxide, which is equivalent to 150.7 mg of magnesium. The usual dosage for adolescents and adults is one hard capsule daily in the morning and one in the evening, which should be taken before meals with sufficient liquid. No special measures are required in the event of an overdose as long as kidney function is intact. Possible side effects are soft stools, gastrointestinal complaints, diarrhoea and fatigue. The medicinal product must not be taken in cases of severe renal dysfunction, breakdown of the conduction system in the heart, hypersensitivity to magnesium oxide or other components of the medicinal product, nervous disease with muscle slackening (myasthenia gravis), tendency to form kidney stones, AV-block and dehydration. No harmful effects of the medicinal product are known during pregnancy and lactation.
