Omeprazole AL 20 mg for heartburn is a medicine containing the active substance omeprazole. It belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. These medicines reduce the amount of stomach acid that your stomach produces. Omeprazole AL 20 mg is used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms in adults. Reflux is the backflow of stomach acid into the oesophagus, which can cause inflammation and pain. This can lead to symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation. The recommended dose for adults is one enteric-coated tablet of omeprazole AL 20 mg once a day for 14 days. If your symptoms do not subside after this period, tell your doctor. It may be necessary to take Omeprazole AL 20 mg for 2-3 consecutive days to achieve an improvement in your symptoms. You should take the tablet whole, unchewed, with sufficient liquid before a meal on an empty stomach. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day. The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors, or if you are taking a medicine containing nelfinavir for HIV-infection.
