Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol - as an injection solution

Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol is a mineral preparation that is used for magnesium deficiency.This deficiency can be the cause of muscle activity disorders such as neuromuscular disorders or leg cramps.A calcium deficiency must be ruled out before magnesium therapy, as tetania can also be a sign of a calcium deficiency.Therapy with magnesium sulfate is only indicated if the serum magnesium level is below normal values (0.8-1.1 mmol/l) and the serum calcium level is normal (2.2-2.7 mmol/l).

The preparation is also used in cases of tendency to miscarry, attempts at premature birth, fetal hypertrophy and certain pregnancy-related complications such as preeclampsia and eclampsia, provided that the magnesium serum level is below normal values.

Ingredients

Each 2 ml ampoule of solution for injection contains 986.0 mg magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, which corresponds to 97.22 mg (4 mmol) magnesium ions.The other ingredient included is water for injection purposes.

Application

Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol should be administered intramuscularly or intravenously by a doctor.The dosage depends on the magnesium level and the indication.No prescription is required for this product.

Notes

Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol must not be used in cases of severe bradycardia, myasthenia gravis or AV-block.In cases of severe renal excretion disorders, special caution is required and dosage adjustment is necessary.With high-dose magnesium sulfate therapy, the patellar tendon reflexes must be preserved, the respiratory rate should not be less than 16 breaths per minute, and urine output should be at least 25 ml per hour.

The effect of other medicines such as diuretics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, immunosuppressants, cytostatics and digitalis glycosides can be influenced by simultaneous treatment with Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol.Curare-type muscle relaxants, barbiturates, narcotics, other hypnotics and calcium salts should not be given simultaneously.

Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol should not be mixed with calcium, phosphate, tetracycline or alcoholic solutions to avoid possible precipitation.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

There is no evidence of a risk of malformations when administering magnesium salts during pregnancy.Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.If magnesium salts are administered shortly before birth, the newborn should be monitored for signs of toxicity.

Ability to drive and use machines

Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Side effects

When administered intravenously, a feeling of warmth and redness of the skin may occasionally occur.If administered parenterally too quickly, nausea, headaches, tingling, sweating, agitation, restlessness, sleepiness and slowing of cardiac and respiratory activity can very rarely occur.In addition, bradycardia, conduction disorders and peripheral vasodilatation can occur.

Reducing the dose, extending the injection time or discontinuing the preparation generally leads to a rapid resolution of these side effects.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the ampoules and carton.
