Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol - as an injection solution

Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol is a mineral preparation that is used for magnesium deficiency.This deficiency can be the cause of muscle activity disorders such as neuromuscular disorders or leg cramps.It is important to note that tetania can also be a sign of calcium deficiency.Therefore, calcium deficiency must be ruled out by determining the serum calcium level before magnesium therapy.

Therapy with magnesium sulfate is only indicated if the serum magnesium level is below normal values (0.8-1.1 mmol/l) and the serum calcium level is normal (2.2-2.7 mmol/l).The preparation can also be used in cases of tendency to miscarry, attempts at premature birth, fetal hypertrophy and certain pregnancy-related complications such as preeclampsia and eclampsia, provided that the magnesium serum level is below normal values.

Ingredients

Each 2 ml ampoule of solution for injection contains 986.0 mg magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, which corresponds to 97.22 mg (4 mmol) magnesium ions.The other ingredient included is water for injection purposes.

Application

Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol should be used depending on the magnesium level and is injected intramuscularly or intravenously by the doctor.The exact dosage and type of application depend on the respective indication and the magnesium serum level.

Notes

Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol must not be used in cases of severe bradycardia, myasthenia gravis or AV-block.In cases of severe renal excretion disorders, special caution is required and dosage adjustment is necessary.During high-dose magnesium sulfate therapy, certain monitoring measures must be observed, such as control of patellar tendon reflexes, respiratory rate and urine output.

The effect of Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol can be influenced by other medicines.It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medications.The preparation should not be mixed with calcium, phosphate, tetracycline or alcoholic solutions.

Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the magnesium serum level is below normal values.There is no evidence of a risk of malformations, but newborns should be monitored after birth for signs of toxicity.

Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Magnesium Diasporal 4 mmol can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects when used intravenously are occasionally a feeling of warmth and reddening of the skin.If administered too quickly, nausea, headaches, tingling, sweating, agitation, restlessness, sleepiness and slowing of heart and breathing activity can very rarely occur.These side effects generally resolve quickly when the dose is reduced or the injection time is increased.

Storage

The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children.It must not be used after the expiry date stated on the ampoules and carton.
