Cormagnesin® 200: High-dose magnesium as an injection

Magnesium deficiency is common but difficult to detect.Cormagnesin® 200 is used to treat magnesium deficiency if this is the cause of muscle activity disorders and oral therapy is not possible.In such cases, intravenous (IV) administration makes sense because the active ingredient enters the bloodstream immediately and completely.

Area of application

Cormagnesin® 200 ampoules are used for magnesium deficiency if this is the cause of muscle activity disorders and oral therapy is not possible.It is also used to treat preeclampsia and eclampsia.

The active ingredient in Cormagnesin® 200 ampoules is magnesium sulfate heptahydrate.One ampoule with 10 ml solution for injection contains 2.0475 g of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, which corresponds to 1000 mg of magnesium sulfate.This in turn corresponds to 8.3 mmol magnesium or 16.6 mval magnesium or 201.9 mg magnesium.

The other ingredients are water for injection purposes and 96% sulfuric acid for pH adjustment.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to individual ingredients, Cormagnesin® 200 ampoules should not be used.

Dosage

The recommended use for Cormagnesin® 200 ampoules is to slowly inject one ampoule intravenously (IV).The injection must be given very slowly with the patient lying down, with the first 3 ml administered in 3 minutes.The injection of one ampoule should be repeated at an interval of 1 to 2 days.

Notes

The dosage depends on the severity of the magnesium deficiency or the level of need.
