Instructions for use for BENZAKNEN Wash 5% suspension, 100 g

Horny plugs. Benzaknen Wash 5% with the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (BPO) gently removes the top horny layer of the skin, unclogs the pores and reduces excess sebum.
- BPO eliminates 94% of all acne bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) and is an effective weapon in the fight against pimples.
- Thanks to its lipophilic properties, benzoyl peroxide penetrates the clogged pores and unfolds its effect there.
- Clogged pores are opened and excess sebum can drain away.
- In this way, acne bacteria are deprived of a breeding ground, the skin's appearance improves and the risk of inflammation and skin irritation is reduced.
- In contrast to treatment with antibiotics, there is no habituation effect with products containing the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide. Benzaknen still works as on the first day, even after several weeks.

Application

The application of Benzaknen Wash 5% against acne is simple and straightforward. Simply apply Benzaknen Wash 5% to slightly moistened skin in the morning and evening and then wash the suspension off thoroughly with clear water. The wash lotion is suitable for large-area application on the chest, shoulders and back. An improvement in the skin's appearance can often be seen after only 1-2 weeks.
Tip: For the treatment of acne and pimples, especially on the face, we recommend the Benzaknen gel. Depending on the severity of the condition, this is available as Benzaknen 5% gel or Benzaknen 10% gel.
Instructions for use: Avoid dry skin!
In mild forms of acne, application once a day is usually sufficient. In severe cases, the wash lotion should be applied to the skin twice a day.
Prolonged use of Benzaknen Wash 5% can make the skin feel dry and tight. Therefore, it is recommended to apply an additional skin-soothing moisturiser. Benzacare Skin Soothing Moisturiser is particularly suitable in this case and is adapted to the special needs of the diseased skin. It can also happen that the skin reacts irritably to the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide at the beginning of the treatment. Normally, however, the discomfort subsides by itself after a few days. If the skin peels, this is not a cause for concern, but a sign that the healing process is underway.
Tip: For longer-term use, Benzaknen Wash with an active ingredient content of 5% benzoyl peroxide is available in a practical double pack (2x 100g Benzaknen Wash 5%).

Important notes

- Avoid excessive UV-radiation, e.g. in solariums or during extended sunbathing, because the skin reacts more sensitively during the application of the medicine.
- There may be medicinal products with which there are interactions. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicinal product you are already using before starting treatment with a new one. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have used for some time.

Contraindications

Always:
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
In some circumstances - talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this:
- Dry skin with a tendency to allergies
What age group should be considered?
- Children under 12 years of age: The medicinal product should not normally be used in this age group.
What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Several considerations play a role in whether and how the medicine can be used in pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: Consult your doctor or pharmacist. He or she will check your particular initial situation and advise you accordingly on whether and how you can continue breast-feeding.
If you have been prescribed the medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit may be greater than the risk involved in using it with a contraindication.

Side effects

- Local irritation at the site of application, such as:
        - Drying of the skin, with a feeling of tension
        - Scaling of the skin
        - Burning sensation on the skin
        - Itching
        - Reddening of the skin

If you notice any disturbance or change in your condition during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
For the information at this point, mainly side effects that occur in at least one in 1,000 treated patients are considered.

Composition

Active substance: Benzoyl peroxide
Other ingredients: Carbomer 940, alpha-olefin (C14 - C16) sulfonic acid sodium salt, glycerol, acrylate copolymer, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

Storage

Storage before opening: The medicinal product must be stored away from heat.
Storage after opening or preparation: The medicinal product must not be used for more than 6 months after opening/preparation!
The medicinal product must be stored at room temperature after opening/preparation!
