Desloratadine Glenmark 5 mg tablets is a medicine for therapy in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (allergic runny nose) and urticaria (hives).

Area of application

The preparation contains desloratadine, which is an antihistamine.It is an anti-allergic medicine that helps control allergic reactions and their symptoms.It is used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itching of the roof of the mouth, and itchy, red, or watery eyes.Desloratadine is also used to relieve the symptoms of urticaria, which include itching and hives.The effects last a whole day and help to resume normal everyday activities and improve sleep.

Each tablet contains 5 mg desloratadine as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, corn starch, highly dispersed silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to desloratadine, any of the other ingredients of this medicine or loratadine.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.The recommended dosage for adults and adolescents 12 years and older is one tablet once daily with water, with or without food.The tablet should be swallowed whole (unchewed).

Regarding the duration of treatment, your doctor will determine the type of allergic rhinitis and decide how long you should take desloratadine.For intermittent allergic rhinitis (symptoms occurring less than 4 days per week or less than 4 weeks), your doctor will recommend a treatment regimen depending on your previous course of the disease.For persistent allergic rhinitis (symptoms occurring 4 or more days per week and lasting more than 4 weeks), longer-term treatment may be recommended.For urticaria, the duration of treatment may vary from patient to patient.

Intake

The recommended dosage is one tablet once daily with water, with or without food.This medicine is to be taken orally.Swallow the tablet whole (unchewed).

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking this medicine if you have impaired kidney function or if you have a medical history or a family history of seizures.Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years of age.

If you take the recommended dosage, this medicine is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines.Although most people do not experience drowsiness, it is recommended that you avoid activities that require mental alertness until your personal response to the medicine has been established.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Desloratadine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.Data on male fertility/female fertility are not available.
