What is a fungal nail infection?

Nail fungus is an infection of the nails that is usually caused by filamentous fungi.These fungi prefer a moist environment and often settle under the nail plate or in cavities in the nail plate.Nail fungus occurs more often on toenails than on fingernails.

How do you recognize nail fungus?

The first signs of nail fungus are changes in nail color.Whitish, yellow or brownish spots indicate a fungal infection.The nail loses its natural shine and becomes brittle and thicker.If left untreated, the infection can lead to complete nail destruction.

How does nail fungus develop?

Nail fungus often develops in warm, humid environments, such as public swimming pools, saunas or showers.Not everyone who comes into contact with the pathogen gets nail fungus.Certain conditions, such as previous damage to the nail or an injury to the cuticle, promote a fungal infection.Older people, people with diabetes and people with a weakened immune system are particularly at risk.

How can you treat nail fungus?

Nail fungus should always be treated with an antifungal nail polish.Amorocutan® nail polish contains the active ingredient amorolfine and is used to treat fungal nail infections of the toenails and fingernails.The nail polish is only used once a week and is waterproof.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

Amorocutan® nail polish is used for the local treatment of fungal diseases of the nails.This includes superficial white nail fungus or nail fungus below the nail if it involves less than 50% of the nail surface and fewer than three nails.

Mode of action

The active ingredient amorolfine penetrates deep into the nail bed and fights nail fungus.The nail polish only needs to be used once a week and can also be used under cosmetic nail polish.

Amorocutan® nail polish contains 55.74 mg amorolfine hydrochloride, equivalent to 50 mg amorolfine.Other ingredients include ammonium methacrylate copolymer (type A), ethanol, ethyl acetate, n-butyl acetate and triacetin.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, the product should not be used.

Dosage

Amorocutan® nail polish is applied to the affected fingernails or toenails once or twice a week.Before the first use, the affected parts of the nail surfaces should be filed down.Before each further application, the nails should be cleaned with an alcohol swab and the nail polish applied with a spatula.The treated nails should dry for five minutes.

Patient information
