What is a fungal nail infection?

Nail fungus is an infection of the nails that is usually caused by filamentous fungi.These fungi prefer a moist environment and often settle under the nail plate or in cavities in the nail plate.Nail fungus occurs much more often on toenails than on fingernails.

How do you recognize nail fungus?

The first signs of nail fungus are changed nail colors.Whitish, yellow or brownish spots indicate that a fungus has settled under the nail plate.The horny substance loses its natural shine and transparency.If left untreated, the structure and shape of the nail also changes: the nail plate becomes crumbly, brittle and thickens.Over time, the infection can lead to complete nail destruction.

How does nail fungus develop?

Nail fungus often develops in warm, humid environments such as public swimming pools, saunas or showers.Not everyone who comes into contact with the pathogen gets nail fungus.A fungal infection only occurs under certain conditions, such as previous damage to the nail or an injury to the cuticle.Older people, people with diabetes and people with a weakened immune system are particularly at risk.

Favoring conditions for a fungal infection of the nails can be: the presence of an athlete's foot infection, circulatory problems or frequent wearing of airtight shoes.

How can you treat nail fungus?

Nail fungus should always be treated with an antifungal nail polish.If the nail is severely affected, additional tablets may be necessary.Antifungal nail polish is available from pharmacies without a prescription.Tablets against nail fungus require a prescription and must be prescribed by a doctor.

Amorocutan® nail polish from Dermapharm is highly effective and was specially developed for fungal diseases of the nails.The active ingredient amorolfine works against nail fungus right into the nail bed.

Amorocutan® nail polish penetrates deep into the nail and fights nail fungus right down to the nail bed.Due to its good long-term effect, the nail polish only needs to be used once a week.

The nail polish is waterproof and therefore seals the nail so that the effect is retained when it comes into contact with water.After drying, the nails can be painted over with a colored cosmetic nail polish, which contributes to a feeling of well-being.

The Amorocutan® nail polish can be applied hygienically with the practical spatula holder and dries quickly.The long effectiveness over 7 days simplifies the treatment of nail fungus.

Area of application

Amorocutan 50mg/ml for nail fungus contains the active ingredient amorolfine and is used to treat fungal nail infections of the toenails and fingernails.Amorocutan 50mg/ml for nail fungus is only used once a week, is waterproof and can also be used under cosmetic nail polish.

Mode of action

The active ingredient amorolfine penetrates deep into the nail bed and fights nail fungus.

Amorocutan 50mg/ml for nail fungus contains: 55.74 mg amorolfine hydrochloride, 50 mg amorolfine, ammonium methacrylate copolymer (type A) as an excipient, ethanol as an excipient, ethyl acetate as an excipient, n-butyl acetate as an excipient and triacetin as an excipient.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, the product should not be used.

Dosage

Apply the medicine to affected fingernails or toenails once or twice a week.Before the first use, the affected parts of the nail surfaces should be filed down as much as possible.For all further applications, re-file as necessary.

Before each subsequent application, you should use an alcohol wipe to clean the nail surface.This will remove any paint residue.Remove the nail polish with one of the included reusable spatulas.Re-immerse the spatula with the perforated surface for each nail to be treated and do not wipe it off the neck of the bottle.Apply the nail polish evenly to the entire area of the affected nail using the spatula.Close the bottle tightly immediately after each use to prevent the solution from drying out.Allow treated nails to dry for 5 minutes.To reuse, clean the spatula with an alcohol wipe after use.

A nail file used for treatment must no longer be used to care for healthy nails, otherwise healthy nails can become infected with nail fungus. Use separate disposable files to treat diseased nails.The varnish layer on the fingernails can be dissolved or removed when handling organic solvents.Therefore, when working with such products, you must wear impermeable gloves to protect the paint layer.

Fungal infections are often very stubborn.You must therefore carry out the treatment continuously once or twice a week until the nail has grown back completely healthy.The time required for this is generally 6 to 7 months, with the degree of infestation playing an important role.The nail growth rate is approximately 1 to 2 mm per month.

Intake

For use on nails.Please pay attention to the following instructions when using: Before the first use, be sure to file off the affected parts of the nail surfaces as much as possible.For all further applications, re-file as necessary.Disposable files are included in the pack.

In any case, use an alcohol wipe to clean the nail surface.This will remove any paint residue.Apply the active nail polish with one of the included reusable spatulas.To make it easier for you to apply the nail polish containing active ingredients, the package includes a spatula holder.Please insert a reusable spatula into the spatula holder.

Remove the nail polish with one of the included reusable spatulas.Re-immerse the spatula with the perforated surface for each nail to be treated and do not wipe it off the neck of the bottle.Apply the nail polish evenly to the entire area of the affected nail using the spatula.Due to the special shape of the spatula holder, the spatula does not come into contact with the storage surface.You can put the spatula down every now and then without having to worry about fungal spores being transferred.

Close the bottle tightly immediately after each use to prevent the solution from drying out.To reuse, clean the spatula with the alcohol swab after use.After applying nail polish, cosmetic nail polish can be applied once it dries.Before reapplying the medication, the cosmetic nail polish should be carefully removed.However, the use of nail polish remover should be avoided in between.

A nail file used for treatment must no longer be used to care for healthy nails, otherwise healthy nails can become infected with nail fungus.Use the disposable files provided to treat the diseased nails.The amorolfine lacquer layer on the fingernails can be dissolved or removed when handling organic solvents.Therefore, when working with such materials, you must wear impermeable gloves to protect the paint layer.

Wash towels as often as possible at at least 60°C.Air the shoes well and let them dry.

Patient information

There is still no experience with inflammatory changes in the area around the nails, diabetes, circulatory disorders, malnutrition, alcohol abuse or in infants and children.

Pregnancy

There is no sufficient experience with its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.
