Directions for use for Macrogol AbZ Powder for constipation. Macrogol AbZ is a medicinal product for the treatment of acute and chronic constipation in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over. It contains macrogol 3350 and electrolytes. Macrogol 3350 works by binding water in the intestine and softening the stool, while electrolytes balance the fluid balance. The drinking solution is made from the powder, which is dissolved to form a clear or slightly cloudy solution. There are some precautions when taking Macrogol AbZ. It should not be taken if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, have a narrowing or obstruction of the bowel, are at risk of intestinal perforation, or have severe inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Particular caution should be given in the presence of symptoms of a shift in fluid and electrolyte balance. Use in children under 12 years of age is not recommended, while use during pregnancy and lactation is possible but should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist beforehand. The recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over is 1-3 sachets per day, depending on the severity of the constipation. The drinking solution should be prepared fresh and must not be mixed with other solutions or drinks. The duration of use should not normally exceed 2 weeks, but may be longer in severe chronic constipation. Possible side effects of Macrogol AbZ may include hypersensitivity reactions, swollen hands, feet or ankles, headache, increased or decreased potassium concentrations in the blood and diarrhoea. Indigestion and abdominal pain may also occur but usually improve when the dose is reduced. Macrogol AbZ should be kept at room temperature and out of the reach of children.
