Pantoprazol PUREN Protect gastro-resistant tablets are a medicine for treating heartburn and acid-related stomach complaints.The active ingredient, pantoprazole, belongs to the group of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and reduces the excessive production of stomach acid.This helps to alleviate symptoms such as acid regurgitation, stomach pain, and a burning sensation in the esophagus.

How it works

Pantoprazol PUREN Protect belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors.These work by blocking a type of pump that produces stomach acid.This reduces the amount of stomach acid.

Pantoprazol PUREN Protect is used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (e.g., heartburn, acid regurgitation) in adults.Reflux is the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus, which can become painfully inflamed.This can cause symptoms such as a painful burning sensation in the chest rising towards the throat (heartburn) and an acidic taste in the mouth (acid reflux).

Your reflux and heartburn symptoms may be relieved after just one day of treatment with Pantoprazol PUREN Protect; however, this medicine does not necessarily provide immediate relief.To relieve symptoms, it may be necessary to take the tablets for 2–3 consecutive days.

Therapeutic indication

Pantoprazole PUREN Protect is used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation in adults.Reflux occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus and irritates it.This can lead to a burning sensation in the chest and an acidic taste in the mouth.

Symptoms may be relieved after just one day of treatment; however, it may take 2–3 days to achieve significant improvement.If symptoms do not improve or worsen after 2 weeks, a doctor should be consulted.

Active substances / ingredients

The active substance is pantoprazole (as pantoprazole sodium 1.5 H2O).Each tablet contains 20 mg of pantoprazole.

The other ingredients are: mannitol, sodium carbonate, sodium starch glycolate (type A), methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer, calcium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), talc, macrogol 400, sodium dodecyl sulfate, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer dispersion 30%, propylene glycol, iron(III) hydroxide oxide x H2O (E172), titanium dioxide (E171), talc, purified water.

Contraindications

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pantoprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.It should also not be taken together with protease HIV-inhibitors such as atazanavir or nelfinavir.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is 1 tablet daily.Do not exceed this recommended daily dose of 20 mg pantoprazole.Take this medicine for at least 2–3 consecutive days.Stop taking the medicine once you are completely symptom-free.

If you do not notice any improvement in your symptoms after 2 weeks of continuous use of this medicine, consult your doctor.Do not take the medicine for longer than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor.

If you have taken more than you should, inform your doctor or pharmacist.Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.Simply take your normal dose at the next scheduled time.

Administration

Take the tablet at the same time each day before a meal.Swallow the tablet whole with some water.Do not chew or break the tablet.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine if you have had treatment for heartburn or indigestion for 4 weeks or longer, you are older than 55 years and treat indigestion daily with non-prescription medicines, you are older than 55 years and have new or recently changed reflux symptoms, you have had a stomach ulcer or gastric operation in the past, you have liver problems or jaundice, you have severe or serious symptomsmedical conditions, see your doctor regularly, are scheduled to have an endoscopy or a breath test, are scheduled to have a specific blood test, or have ever experienced skin reactions as a result of treatment with a medicine similar to this product.

Do not take this medicine for more than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor.Talk to your doctor if reflux symptoms have not gone away after 2 weeks.Your doctor will decide whether long-term treatment with this medicine is necessary.

Long-term use of this drug carries additional risks such as reduced absorption of vitamin B12 and vitamin B12 deficiency, hip, wrist or spine fractures, and falling blood magnesium levels.

Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms before or after taking this medicine, which could be a sign of another, more serious condition: unintentional weight loss, vomiting, especially with repeated vomiting, vomiting blood, blood in stools, difficulty swallowing or pain when swallowing, paleness and weakness, chest pain, stomach pain, severe and/or persistent diarrhea, rash, or severe skin reactions.

Children and adolescents should not take the medicine as there is a lack of safety information for this age group.

If you experience side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision, you should not drive or operate machines.

Pregnancy

You should not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Notes

After just one day of treatment with Pantoprazole PUREN Protect, your symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn may be relieved, but this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief.You should not take it as a preventive measure.

If you suffer from recurrent heartburn or indigestion over a long period of time, remember to see your doctor regularly.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
