Mode of action

Contraindications

Dosage

For application to the skin before minor procedures, a thick layer of cream is applied and covered with a dressing.The usual dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age is 2 g.The cream is applied at least 60 minutes before the procedure, but no more than 5 hours beforehand.For children, the amount of cream and the duration of application depend on the child's age.For application to larger areas of freshly shaved skin prior to outpatient procedures, the usual dose is 1 g of cream per 10 cm² of skin, applied under a dressing for 1 to 5 hours.The cream should not be applied to an area of freshly shaved skin larger than 600 cm².The maximum dose is 60 g.

For application to the skin before inpatient procedures, the usual dose is 1.5 g to 2 g of cream per 10 cm² of skin.The cream is applied under a dressing for 2 to 5 hours.For application to the skin prior to the removal of molluscum-like skin lesions, the usual dose depends on the child's age, and the cream is applied for 30 to 60 minutes.For application to genital skin prior to local anesthetic injections, the usual dose is 1 g of cream per 10 cm² of skin.The cream is applied and covered with a dressing.It is left in place for 15 minutes on male genital skin and for 60 minutes on female genital skin.For application to genital skin prior to minor surgical procedures, the usual dose is 5 g to 10 g of cream applied for 10 minutes.For application to leg ulcers prior to cleaning or debridement (removal of damaged skin), the usual dose is 1 g to 2 g of cream per 10 cm² of skin, up to a total dose of 10 g.The cream is applied under an airtight dressing and left in place for 30 to 60 minutes before the ulcer is cleaned.

If you have applied more cream than you should have, inform your doctor, pharmacist, or healthcare professional immediately, even if you do not notice any symptoms.Symptoms following the application of an excessive amount of cream may include a feeling of lightheadedness or dizziness, tingling around the mouth and numbness of the tongue, an unusual taste, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, and the risk of "acute methemoglobinemia."In severe cases of overdose, symptoms such as seizures, low blood pressure, slowed breathing, cessation of breathing, and altered heart rhythm may occur.These effects can be life-threatening.

The cream should not be applied to cuts, abrasions, or open wounds (except leg ulcers), rashes or eczema, areas in or near the eyes, nose, ears, or mouth, the anal region, or the genitals of children.Individuals who frequently apply or remove the cream should ensure they avoid contact with it to prevent the development of hypersensitivity.The protective seal on the tube opening can be punctured using the screw cap.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you or your child have a rare congenital disease called "glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency" which affects the blood.Except for leg ulcers, do not apply the medicine to areas with rashes, cuts, abrasions, or other open wounds.If you or your child have an itchy skin condition called "atopic dermatitis," a shorter exposure time may be sufficient.An exposure time longer than 30 minutes can lead to an increased occurrence of local vascular reactions.If you are taking special medicines for cardiac arrhythmias (class III antiarrhythmics, such as amiodarone), the doctor will monitor your heart function.Due to the possible increased absorption through freshly shaved skin, it is important to adhere to the recommended dosage, skin area and exposure time.Avoid getting the medicine in your eyes as this may cause irritation.If the medicine accidentally gets into your eye, you should immediately rinse it well with lukewarm water or sodium chloride 9 mg/ml (0.9%) solution.Be careful not to let anything get into your eye until feeling returns.The medicine should not be used on a damaged eardrum.If you use the product before vaccinations with live vaccines, you should visit your doctor or nurse again within the specified period to check the vaccination result.

In infants/newborns under 3 months of age, a temporary, clinically insignificant increase in the concentration of the blood pigment methemoglobin in the blood ("methaemoglobinemia") is often observed up to 12 hours after application of lidocaine/prilocaine cream.The effectiveness of lidocaine/prilocaine cream in heel blood sampling of newborns or in providing adequate pain relief during circumcision has not been confirmed in clinical studies.Due to insufficient data on active ingredient absorption, the preparation should not be used on the genital mucous membrane (e.g. in the vagina) in children (under 12 years of age).The medicine should not be used in children under 12 months of age who are being treated at the same time as other medicines that affect the blood concentration of the blood pigment methemoglobin ("methaemoglobinemia") (e.g. sulfonamides).The medicine should not be used in premature babies.

This medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines when used at recommended doses.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.Occasional use of the cream during pregnancy is unlikely to have any negative effects on the unborn child. The active ingredients in this cream (lidocaine and prilocaine) are excreted into breast milk.However, the amount is so small that there is generally no risk to the child.Animal studies showed no impairment of male or female fertility.
