Application

The medicinal product contains dry yeast from cultures of the defined strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926, also known as Saccharomyces boulardii.It is used to treat acute diarrheal illnesses, including traveler's diarrhea and tube-feeding diarrhea.It can also be used to prevent traveler's diarrhea.

Ingredients

The product contains 250 mg Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926. The following excipients are also included: hypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate (vegetable), titanium dioxide, purified water and a small amount of carbohydrates (0.01 BE).

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to yeast or any of the other ingredients.Immunosuppressed or hospitalized patients as well as people with a central venous catheter should also not use the drug.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as described or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.For acute diarrhea, the recommended dosage for children between 6 months and 2 years as well as for children from 2 years of age, adolescents and adults is 1 hard capsule 1 to 2 times daily.Infants under 6 months should not use the product.To prevent traveler's diarrhea, young people aged 12 and over and adults take 1 hard capsule 1 to 2 times a day, starting 5 days before departure.Children under 12 years of age should not use the product for prevention.

Treatment of acute diarrheal illnesses usually lasts 4 to 7 days.To prevent traveler's diarrhea, it should be taken for the entire duration of the trip.If you overdose or forget to take it, please follow the dosage instructions or consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

The hard capsules should be taken whole with sufficient liquid before meals.For children under 6 years of age, the capsule can be opened and the contents stirred into food or liquid.In the case of diarrhea caused by tube feeding, only the contents of the capsules are added to the nutrient solution.

Patient information

If you have diarrhea that lasts longer than 2 days or is accompanied by blood or fever, you should consult a doctor.Particular attention should be paid to replacing fluids and salts with children.During microbiological stool tests, the laboratory should be informed about the use of the drug.It is not intended for use in the treatment or prevention of diarrhea for infants under 6 months of age and children under 12 years of age.

Taking it does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

The safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been adequately studied.It is therefore not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

No prescription is required for this product.It is available in pharmacies and should not be stored above 25°C.The medicine is gelatin-free and therefore suitable for vegetarians.It does not require refrigeration and is available in individually blistered capsules.
