Perocur 250 mg hard capsules contain the active substance dried yeast from Saccharomyces cerevisiae HANSEN CBS 5926, also known as Saccharomyces boulardii. The medicine is used to treat acute diarrhoea, traveller's diarrhoea and tube fed diarrhoea. It is also used to prevent travellers' diarrhoea. The recommended dosage for children between 6 months and 2 years is 1 capsule 1-2 times a day. For children 2 years and older, adolescents and adults, the recommended dosage is also 1 capsule 1-2 times daily. Adolescents from 12 years and adults should start taking the capsules 5 days before departure. The capsules should be taken unchewed with sufficient liquid. It is not intended for use in children under 6 months of age. The duration of use depends on the symptoms and the disease. As a rule, 4-7 days is sufficient. Perocur 250 mg should be protected from heat and stored out of the reach of children. The most common side effects are flatulence, itching, rash, swelling, shortness of breath and allergic shock. The medicine also contains lactose and other ingredients such as magnesium stearate and titanium dioxide. It should not be used if there is an allergy to yeast or lactose intolerance. Pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding should avoid its use.
