To effectively combat acne-causing bacteria, cleaning with soap and water is often not enough.Benzaknen® 5% Gel contains the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (BPO), which offers an effective treatment against acne.

BPO eliminates 94% of all acne bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) and penetrates clogged pores thanks to its lipophilic properties.It loosens dead cells from the stratum corneum, opens clogged pores and allows excess sebum to drain away.This removes the breeding ground for acne bacteria, the skin's appearance improves and the risk of inflammation and skin irritation is reduced.In contrast to antibiotics, no resistance occurs when using benzoyl peroxide, so the gel remains effective even after several weeks.

1 g of Benzaknen® 5% gel contains 100 mg of benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient.

Other ingredients of the Benzaknen® 5% gel are carbomer 940, sodium edetate (Ph.Eur.), docusate sodium, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, propylene glycol, poloxamer, glycerol, acrylate copolymer, sodium hydroxide and purified water.

Contraindications

Benzaknen® 5% Gel should not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to one of the ingredients, if you have previously damaged skin, on mucous membranes and in the corners of the mouth, nose and eyes, in the last month of pregnancy or if you are receiving intensive UV-radiation at the same time.

Use for neurodermatitis as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only be carried out after consultation with a doctor.

Dosage

Before using Benzaknen® 5% gel, the skin should be thoroughly cleansed with a medical cleansing gel and then dried well.The gel is applied thinly to the affected skin areas.For optimal treatment, the gel should be used once or twice daily.

To meet the specific needs of acne-prone skin, the Benzaknen® and Benzacare™ product offering includes several products.Depending on the condition of the skin and the severity of the disease, we recommend the holistic use of the Benzaknen® product family, which includes the three important phases of cleansing, treatment and care.

The duration of application is usually 4-12 weeks.After 14 days at the latest, acne therapy with Benzaknen® 5% gel should show visible success.The number of pimples or blackheads or skin irritations should have noticeably reduced. If success is evident, acne treatment can be continued over a longer period of time.

Initially, therapy with benzoyl peroxide can cause skin irritation.These side effects usually subside after a few days.If the skin is peeling, there is no need to worry as it actually promotes healing.Benzaknen® 5% Gel can cause the skin to dry out more quickly.Therefore, use should always be accompanied by a soothing, non-greasy moisturizer.

Benzaknen® 5% gel has a bleaching effect.Therefore, eyebrows, beard and forehead hairline should be excluded from treatment.Caution is also advised with colored textiles.
