Area of application

Nikofrenone 7 mg/24 hour patch supports quitting cigarettes and other tobacco products.It helps reduce the withdrawal symptoms of nicotine addiction and makes it easier to quit the addiction.The patch is well tolerated and gradually releases less nicotine over a period of 9 to 12 weeks, significantly reducing physical withdrawal symptoms.

One advantage of the 24-hour patch over other forms of application is the consistent release of active ingredients.This reduces deficiency symptoms and the craving for the addictive substance.The consistent availability of nicotine over 24 hours also helps to reduce the craving for that first cigarette in the morning.

The patch should be changed once a day in the morning, if possible at the same time.The adhesive areas should be changed regularly, for example on the shoulder, upper arms or upper hip.You should stop smoking before starting therapy.The patch must not be divided.After use, the patch should be rolled up with the active ingredient side inwards and discarded.

Nikofrenone 7 mg/24 hour patch contains the active ingredient nicotine.A transdermal patch contains 17.5 mg of nicotine, with the average release of active ingredient on the skin being 7 mg/24 hours.

The other ingredients are acrylate/vinyl acetate/methacrylate copolymer, medium-chain triglycerides, basic butyl methacrylate copolymer (Ph. Eur.), paper, printed carrier film made of poly(ethylene terephthalate), aluminum-coated, brown printing ink, and protective film made of poly(ethylene terephthalate), aluminum-coated and siliconized.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients mentioned, the product should not be used.

Dosage

Nikofrenone 7 mg/24 hour patch is easily and conveniently stuck onto the skin once a day.The duration of use depends on the progress of the treatment and should last a total of 9 to 12 weeks.The dosage should only be reduced after one week of continuous use at the earliest.

When starting treatment with Nikofrenone, you must stop smoking completely.The nicotine-containing patches are available in three strengths: Nikofrenone 7 mg/24 hours, Nikofrenone 14 mg/24 hours and Nikofrenone 21 mg/24 hours.The starting dose depends on your previous smoking habits.For optimal treatment, you should follow the following dosage regimen:

Starting phase (3-4 weeks): More than 20 cigarettes per day: Nikofrenone 21 mg/24 hours.Up to and including 20 cigarettes per day: Nikofrenone 14 mg/24 hours.

Continuation phase (3-4 weeks): More than 20 cigarettes per day: Nikofrenone 14 mg/24 hours.Up to and including 20 cigarettes per day: Nikofrenone 14 mg/24 hours.

Finishing (3-4 weeks): More than 20 cigarettes per day: Nikofrenone 7 mg/24 hours.Up to and including 20 cigarettes per day: Nikofrenone 7 mg/24 hours.

Intake

The transdermal patch is applied to a healthy, hairless, dry and clean area of skin, preferably on the upper arm.Other parts of the body to attach include the shoulder area or upper hip.The patch should be pressed with the palm of your hand for 10 to 20 seconds.

The same skin area should not be used on consecutive days.After applying the patch, hands should be washed thoroughly to avoid eye irritation caused by nicotine transfer.Used plasters should be disposed of carefully and kept out of the reach of children.

The preparation is not waterproof, but can be left on the skin with careful showering.It is not necessary to remove the patch in the solarium.To protect the plaster from moisture, it can be covered with a plaster-free plaster.Alternatively, the patch can be removed a maximum of 1-2 times and stuck onto a smooth surface to maintain its adhesiveness.

The patch should not be left on the skin during a sauna visit or a dive, as an uncontrolled release of nicotine cannot be ruled out.If the adhesive effect of the plaster is impaired, it can be fixed with an active ingredient-free wound plaster.

After removing the patch, it should be folded in half with the adhesive layer inward so that the two halves stick together.

Patient information

No prescription is required for this product. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the product if you have stable narrowing of the coronary arteries, older heart attacks, cerebral vascular diseases, circulatory problems in the arms or legs, severely increased blood pressure, heart muscle weakness, kidney and liver problems, hyperthyroidism, epilepsy, muscle weakness, diabetes, inflammation of the gastric mucosa and acute stomach and intestinal ulcers.

Children must not be treated with this preparation.There is no experience with its use in patients under 18 years of age.There is only limited experience with its use in smokers over 65 years of age, but the effectiveness and tolerability in this age group appear to be unproblematic.

There is no evidence of risks in road traffic or when operating machines as long as the recommended dosage is adhered to.However, keep in mind that quitting smoking can cause behavioral changes.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Smoking can cause serious harm to the fetus and infant and should be stopped.Pregnant smokers are recommended to quit smoking without the support of medicines containing nicotine.The use of Nikofrenone should only be considered after consulting your doctor if there is a risk of continuing to smoke.

Nicotine passes into breast milk.When using the drug in therapeutic doses, nicotine levels in breast milk can be achieved, which have an effect on the child.If nicotine substitution with the preparation is necessary during breastfeeding, the infant should be switched to formula feeding.

Smoking can have adverse effects on female and male fertility.It is not known what specific contribution nicotine has to these effects.However, if possible, women who want to have children should neither smoke nor take nicotine replacement therapy.

Notes

The transdermal patches must be kept out of the reach of children before and after use.There are no studies available on treatment times totaling more than 3 months and on dosages of more than 1 transdermal patch of nikofrenone per day.Any deviation from this should therefore only be made after consulting a doctor.

Dosage adjustment cannot be achieved by cutting a transdermal patch.Cutting can lead to a decrease in effectiveness that goes beyond reducing the adhesive surface.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
