Levocetirizine beta 5 mg film-coated tablets

The medicine is approved for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and hives in adults and children aged 6 years and over.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

The active ingredient levocetirizine dihydrochloride in levocetirizine beta 5 mg film-coated tablets has anti-allergic, antihistamine and anti-inflammatory effects.It prevents the release of various inflammatory substances from the so-called mast cells.

Levocetirizine beta 5 mg film-coated tablets contains the active ingredient levocetirizine, which is available as levocetirizine dihydrochloride (5 mg), equivalent to 4.2 mg levocetirizine.One film-coated tablet therefore contains 5 mg levocetirizine dihydrochloride.

The other ingredients include microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur) (tablet core) and hypromellose (E464), titanium dioxide (E171) and macrogol 400 (film coating).

Area of application

Levocetirizine beta 5 mg film-coated tablets can be used in adults and children from the age of 6 years to treat signs of allergic rhinitis, including persistent allergic rhinitis, and hives (urticaria).

Contraindications

Levocetirizine beta 5 mg film-coated tablets must not be taken if you have severe kidney disease, are allergic to levocetirizine dihydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you cannot empty your bladder completely, if you have epilepsy or are at risk of seizures, children under 6 years of age, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Dosage

The recommended daily dose for adults and children aged 6 and over is 5 mg, i.e. one film-coated tablet daily.Patients with impaired kidney function may receive a lower dose, which depends on the severity of the kidney disease and, in children, also on body weight.The dose will be determined by your doctor.Patients with severely impaired kidney function must not take Levocetirizine beta 5 mg.Patients with only impaired liver function should take the normal prescribed dose.The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid, preferably water.It can be taken with or without meals.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.If you have impaired kidney function, difficulty urinating, epilepsy, or are at risk of seizures, please ask your doctor for advice.It is recommended to avoid taking the drug and alcohol at the same time.If you are going to have an allergy test, please ask your doctor if you should stop taking the medicine for a few days before the test.

In clinical trials, levocetirizine at the recommended dose did not produce any signs of impairment in attention, alertness or driving ability.If you plan to drive, work without a secure footing or operate machines, you should carefully monitor your reaction to the medicine after taking the medicine if you have allergies.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Notes

Not suitable for children under 6 years.If you don't feel better after 3 days or even feel worse, contact your doctor.Keep out of the reach of children.Levocetirizine beta contains lactose.Please only take Levocetirizine beta after consulting your doctor if you know that you have an intolerance to certain sugars.You must not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the blister pack and carton after “use by”.For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacy.

I have read that compared to cetirizine, a much smaller amount of the active ingredient levocetirizine is sufficient to achieve the same effect. That's why I bought this medication for the first time. What I can say after a few days: 1. the medication works quickly for me, in about 20 minutes. 2. it doesn't make me tired. 3. the recommended intake of one tablet a day is sufficient.
