Sumatriptan-ratiopharm is a medicine used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks. It contains the active substance sumatriptan, which belongs to the group of medicines called triptans. Triptans work by reducing the temporary dilation of the blood vessels in the head, which can relieve migraine symptoms. They are taken orally and should only be taken when the migraine headache has started. For adults, the usual dose is one 50 mg film-coated tablet. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 100 mg, but higher doses are not expected to improve the effect. No more than 300 mg of sumatriptan should be taken within 24 hours. The tablets should be taken unchewed with water. It is recommended to take the medicine as soon as possible after the onset of the migraine headache. If symptoms recur, additional tablets may be taken within 24 hours, but at least 2 hours apart. The use of Sumatriptan-ratiopharm is not recommended in children, adolescents and elderly patients (over 65 years). In case of overdose, nausea, vomiting, facial flushing, dizziness and fatigue may occur. Pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding should consult their doctor before use. Side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness, fatigue, skin redness and muscle pain may occur. People with certain pre-existing conditions or allergies should not take the medicine.
