Hydrocortisone, also known as cortisol, is a hormone that our body produces in the adrenal cortex.Cortisol intervenes in many metabolic processes in the organism and is vital for humans.HydroGalen® acute cream contains hydrocortisone, the body's unchanged active ingredient.It is the mildest corticosteroid for external use in humans.

Area of application

HydroGalen acute 5 mg/g cream is an anti-inflammatory cream for use on the skin.It is used for short-term (maximum two weeks) use to treat inflammatory, allergic or itchy skin diseases of moderate severity that respond to external therapy with weakly effective corticosteroids.No prescription is required for this product.

100 g of HydroGalen acute 5 mg/g cream contains: Active ingredient: 0.5 g hydrocortisone.Other ingredients: benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], citric acid (E 330), dimeticone (350), glycerol monostearate, sodium citrate (E 331), sodium edetate (Ph.Eur.), macrogol-20-glycerol monostearate, propylene glycol, medium-chain triglycerides, white petrolatum,purified water.

Contraindications

HydroGalen acute 5 mg/g must not be used if you are allergic to hydrocortisone, benzyl alcohol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.Even with virus-related skin diseases such as herpes (herpes simplex), shingles (herpes zoster) or chickenpox, specific skin processes (skin tuberculosis, syphilis), skin reactions after vaccinations, inflammatory skin symptoms around the mouth with redness and nodules (perioral dermatitis), acne and facial redness, possibly with inflammatory or purulent pimples (rosacea), fungal infections and bacterial skin infections, under airtightfinal bandages, plasters, diapers, etc., in skin folds, on the eye or eyelid and in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Dosage

Apply HydroGalen acute 5 mg/g thinly to the affected skin areas once or twice a day.To do this, put a small amount of the cream on a fingertip and then rub the cream lightly.Avoid large area application (i.e. more than 20% of the body surface).HydroGalen acute 5 mg/g must not be used for longer than 2 weeks.In the case of eczema-like diseases, treatment should not be stopped immediately after improvement, but should be continued for a while to prevent relapses.One application per day is usually sufficient.

Use in children: Children up to the age of 6 may only be treated with HydroGalen acute 5 mg/g as prescribed by a doctor.Treatment in children should be carried out with caution and should not last longer than 14 days.The treated area should not be more than 10% of the body surface.One application per day is usually sufficient.

The product is a cream for use on the skin.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the cream.Since the skin in the facial area is particularly sensitive, the product should only be used on the face with particular caution in order to avoid skin changes.If the cream is used in the genital or anal area and latex products (e.g. condoms, diaphragms) at the same time, the functionality of these products may be reduced due to the other ingredients they contain and thus the safety of these products may be impaired.If you experience blurred vision or other vision problems, contact your doctor.

Children: The medicine may only be used in children under 6 years of age as prescribed by a doctor.

Driving and using machines: No special precautions are required.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.The preparation must not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy.The cream should only be used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy after consulting your doctor.The active ingredient contained passes into breast milk.If long-term treatment or the use of higher doses is necessary, breast-feeding should be discontinued.Avoid contact of the infant with the treated skin areas.

Notes

Contains cetostearyl alcohol and propylene glycol.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
