Area of application

Desloratadine HEUMANN 5 mg film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient desloratadine, which is an antihistamine.This anti-allergic medicine helps control allergic reactions and their symptoms without causing drowsiness.It is used to improve symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itching of the roof of the mouth, and itchy, red, or watery eyes.It is also used to relieve symptoms of urticaria, such as itching and hives.The effects last a whole day, allowing normal daily activities to be resumed and sleep to be improved.

Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg desloratadine as the active ingredient.The other ingredients include microcrystalline cellulose, mannitol (E 421), magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.) [pflanzlich], hypromellose, hyprolose, titanium dioxide (E 171), indigo carmine, aluminum salt (E 132).

Contraindications

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to desloratadine, any of the other ingredients of this medicine or loratadine.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.For adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over, the recommended dosage is one tablet once daily, with or without food.The tablet should be swallowed whole (unchewed) with sufficient liquid (approx. a glass of water).The duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor, depending on the type and course of your allergic rhinitis or urticaria.If you accidentally overdose, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately.If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and then go back to your normal treatment schedule.Do not take a double dose if you miss a dose.

Intake

The recommended dosage is one tablet once daily with water, with or without food.This medicine is to be taken orally.Swallow the tablet whole (unchewed).

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking this medicine if you have impaired kidney function or if you have a medical history or a family history of seizures.Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years of age.If you take the recommended dosage, this medicine is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines.However, it is recommended that you avoid activities that require mental alertness until your personal response to the medicine has been established.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Taking desloratadine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.Data on male fertility/female fertility are not available.
