Vagisan sept vaginal suppositories with povidone-iodine is a vaginal antiseptic that is used for the local treatment of vaginal infections.The active ingredient povidone-iodine fights bacteria, fungi, yeasts as well as some viruses and protozoa.It is therefore suitable for a wide range of vaginal infections, including non-specific infections, mixed infections, infections caused by protozoa such as trichomoniasis and bacterial infections caused by Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides / Prevotella and Mycoplasma hominis.

Povidone-iodine penetrates biofilms and is therefore also effective in recurrent infections.There is no known development of resistance to povidone-iodine, which allows repeated use.The active ingredient is well tolerated and takes effect within 30 seconds.

The vaginal suppositories are easy to insert without an applicator and work quickly.They are free of preservatives, fragrances or colorings.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

One vaginal suppository contains 200 mg of povidone-iodine [Poly(1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidon)-Iod-Komplex] with an average molecular weight of 44,000 and an available iodine content of 10% in neutral fat base.The other ingredients are hard fat, sodium acetate, highly disperse silicon dioxide (E551) and medium-chain triglycerides.

Area of application

Vagisan sept vaginal suppositories with povidone-iodine are used to treat iodine-sensitive specific and non-specific vaginal infections.It fights the cause of the infection directly in the vagina and can be used for a variety of vaginal infections.

Mode of action

Povidone-iodine is a complex compound of iodine with the carrier povidone that is well tolerated.It penetrates biofilms and is therefore effective even in recurrent infections.The effect begins within 30 seconds and no development of resistance is known.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, the product should not be used.

Dosage

Insert 1 vaginal suppository as deeply as possible into the vagina once a day.The vaginal suppositories can be easily inserted without an applicator.It is advisable to do this in the evening as the antiseptic can then work while you sleep.To prevent stains in your underwear, wear a panty liner.The treatment should not be carried out during menstruation and you should not use tampons.

If necessary, especially if you have a Candida albicans infection, you can also use 2 vaginal suppositories daily, one in the morning and one in the evening.The duration of treatment depends on the improvement in your symptoms and should not be more than 10 days.If symptoms do not improve within 10 days, contact your doctor.

Intake

Wash your hands before and after inserting the vaginal suppository.Insert the vaginal suppository with one finger as deeply as possible into the vagina, preferably lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.Insert the vaginal suppository in the evening before going to bed.The iodine it contains can cause brown stains on textiles, so you should wear a panty liner during use.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the vaginal suppositories.The product should only be used as directed by your doctor if you have or have had a thyroid disorder.In these cases, repeated use of the drug should be avoided.If you use it repeatedly, especially on damaged mucous membranes, you should have your thyroid function checked by a doctor during and 6 to 12 weeks after treatment.

If vaginal suppositories and latex products (e.g. condoms, diaphragms) are used at the same time, the functionality may be reduced and the safety of these products may be impaired for the duration of use of the vaginal suppositories.

The medicine may only be used in children and adolescents after consulting a doctor and following his instructions.The vaginal suppositories should not be used before the first menstrual period.

Pregnancy

Vagisan sept vaginal suppositories with povidone-iodine must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.If you think you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
