Vagisan sept vaginal suppositories with povidone-iodine is a vaginal antiseptic that is used for the local treatment of vaginal infections.The active ingredient povidone-iodine fights bacteria, fungi, yeasts as well as some viruses and protozoa.This product is particularly effective for non-specific vaginal infections, mixed infections, infections caused by protozoa such as trichomoniasis and bacterial infections caused by Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides / Prevotella and Mycoplasma hominis.

Mode of action

Vagisan sept vaginal suppositories contain the active ingredient povidone-iodine, a complex compound of iodine with the carrier povidone.This compound penetrates biofilms and is therefore effective even in recurrent infections.Povidone-iodine is very well tolerated and takes effect within 30 seconds.Another advantage is that there is no known resistance to povidone-iodine, which allows repeated use.

One vaginal suppository contains 200 mg of povidone-iodine [Poly(1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidon)-Iod-Komplex] with an average molecular weight of 44,000 and an available iodine content of 10% in neutral fat base.The other ingredients are hard fat, sodium acetate, highly disperse silicon dioxide (E551) and medium-chain triglycerides.The suppositories are free of preservatives, fragrances or dyes.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, the product should not be used.

Dosage

Insert a vaginal suppository as deeply as possible into the vagina once a day.This should preferably be done in the evening so that the antiseptic can work while you sleep.To avoid stains in your underwear, it is advisable to wear a panty liner.Treatment should not be performed during menstruation and tampons should not be used.

If necessary, especially if you have a Candida albicans infection, you can also use a vaginal suppository twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.The duration of treatment depends on the improvement in your symptoms and should not be more than 10 days.If there is no improvement within 10 days, contact your doctor.

Intake

Wash your hands before and after inserting the vaginal suppository.Insert the suppository as deeply as possible into the vagina with one finger, preferably lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.It is advisable to introduce the suppository in the evening before going to bed.The iodine it contains can cause brown stains in textiles, so you should wear a panty liner.Stains can usually be removed with warm water and soap.

Patient information
