Directions for use of the article Nicorette Chewing Gum 2 mg freshfruit Nicorette Chewing Gum 2 mg freshfruit is a chewing gum containing active ingredients for smoking cessation. It is used to treat tobacco dependence by relieving withdrawal symptoms and to support smoking cessation. It can also be used to reduce cigarette consumption in order to achieve smoking cessation. Nicorette Chewing Gum 2 mg freshfruit is intended for smokers who have smoked up to 20 cigarettes per day. Additional counselling and supportive measures can increase the success rate. The chewing gum is also suitable for diabetics. Use according to the package leaflet or after consultation with a doctor or pharmacist. For immediate smoking cessation, the usual dose is 1 piece of chewing gum per hour, up to a maximum of 16 pieces per day. Smokers who are not heavily addicted to tobacco should use 8 to 12 pieces as a guide. The gum should be chewed when a cigarette would normally be smoked or when smoking cravings occur. The gum should be used for at least 3 months. The number of chewing gums per day should be gradually reduced to achieve smoking cessation. In the case of smoking reduction followed by smoking cessation, smoking should be stopped within 6 months at the latest. The medicinal product must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, heart attack, stroke (which occurred recently) and certain other previous illnesses. Children under 12 years of age and adolescents from 12 to 17 years of age should also only use the medicine under a doctor's recommendation. Possible side effects of the medicine include increased salivation, irritation of the mouth and throat and reddening of the skin. In the event of an overdose, other symptoms may occur. Conscientious dosing is especially important for infants, small children and elderly people. The medicine contains nicotine and should be kept safely away from children. Interactions with other medicines may occur. Smoking should be avoided during treatment. The exact composition of the chewing gum is given in the package leaflet. The effect of the chewing gum is based on the gradual reduction of the amount of nicotine in order to end nicotine dependence.
