What are Buscopan tablets and what are they used for?

Buscopan dragees are an antispasmodic, also known as an antispasmodic.They are used to treat mild to moderate cramps in the gastrointestinal tract and to relieve cramping abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome.The active ingredient butylscopolaminium bromide helps to relax the muscles of the affected organs and thereby relieve pain.

How should Buscopan tablets be taken?

Always take Buscopan tablets exactly as described in the package leaflet or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.The usual dosage for adults and children aged 6 and over is 1 to 2 tablets 3 times a day.One tablet contains 10 mg of butylscopolaminium bromide, so the single dose is between 10 and 20 mg.The maximum daily dose should not exceed 60 mg.Take the tablets whole with sufficient liquid.You should not take Buscopan tablets for longer than 5 days without medical advice.

What do Buscopan tablets contain?

The active ingredient in Buscopan dragees is butylscopolaminium bromide, with each dragee containing 10 mg of this active ingredient.The other ingredients include sucrose, calcium hydrogen phosphate, corn starch, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, arabic gum, povidone, tartaric acid, stearic acid, macrogol 6000, carnauba wax, bleached wax and titanium dioxide (E 171).

Buscopan dragees are used to treat mild to moderate cramps in the gastrointestinal tract and to relieve cramp-like abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome.

Dosage and instructions for use

Children aged 6 and over and adults should take 1 to 2 tablets 3 times a day, regardless of meals.The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.Take the tablets with liquid, such as a glass of water.The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and the course of the disease.An overdose may cause symptoms such as inhibition of sweat secretion, dry mouth, rapid pulse and difficulty urinating.In this case, contact a doctor immediately.If you forget to take a dose, continue taking it at the next scheduled time without doubling the dose.

Contraindications

Buscopan dragees should not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients, narrowing of the digestive tract, megacolon, cardiac arrhythmia with accelerated pulse, myasthenia gravis, urinary retention, enlarged prostate or angle-closure glaucoma.Children under 6 years of age should generally not take the medicine.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Side effects

Possible side effects of Buscopan dragees include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, skin hypersensitivity reactions such as itching and hives, drying of the skin, low blood pressure and rapid pulse.If you feel unwell or change during treatment, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Mode of action

The active ingredient butylscopolaminium bromide influences the nervous system by preventing the transmission of certain stimuli.This relieves spasms in the gastrointestinal tract, the bile and urinary tracts and the uterus.

Important notes

Caution is advised if you are allergic to talc, arabic gum, polyethylene glycol or certain plants such as cinnamon, birch, poplar buds, propolis, valerian, turmeric and rosin.There may be interactions with other medicines, so you should tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking.

Storage

Buscopan dragees should be protected from moisture and stored in the original packaging.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the folding box and the blister pack.No special storage conditions regarding temperature are required.
