What are Buscopan tablets and what are they used for?

Buscopan tablets are an antispasmodic, also known as an antispasmodic.They are used to treat mild to moderate cramps in the gastrointestinal tract and to relieve cramping abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome.The active ingredient butylscopolaminium bromide has a targeted effect on the nervous system and prevents the transmission of certain stimuli, thereby relieving cramps.No prescription is required for this product.

How should Buscopan tablets be taken?

Always take Buscopan tablets exactly as described in the package leaflet or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.The usual dosage for adults and children aged 6 years and over is 1 to 2 tablets 3 times a day, which corresponds to a single dose of 10 to 20 mg and a maximum daily dose of 60 mg of butylscopolaminium bromide.The dragees should be taken whole with sufficient liquid.Do not take Buscopan tablets for longer than 5 days without medical advice.

What do Buscopan tablets contain?

The active ingredient in Buscopan dragees is butylscopolaminium bromide, with each dragee containing 10 mg of this active ingredient.The other ingredients include sucrose, calcium hydrogen phosphate, corn starch, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, arabic gum, povidone, tartaric acid, stearic acid, macrogol 6000, carnauba wax, bleached wax and titanium dioxide (E 171).

How should Buscopan tablets be stored?

Keep Buscopan tablets out of the reach of children and do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister pack.No special storage conditions regarding temperature are required.Store the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from moisture.

Areas of application

Buscopan dragees are used for mild to moderate cramps of the gastrointestinal tract as well as cramp-like abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome.

Dosage and instructions for use

Children aged 6 and over and adults can take 1-2 tablets 3 times a day in the morning, lunch and evening, regardless of meals.The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.Take the medicine with liquid, such as a glass of water.The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease.In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as inhibition of sweat secretion, reddening of the skin, dry mouth, rapid pulse and difficulty urinating may occur.If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.If you forget to take a dose, continue taking it as usual at the next prescribed time without doubling the dose.

Contraindications

Buscopan dragees should not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients, narrowing of the digestive tract, megacolon, cardiac arrhythmia with accelerated pulse, myasthenia gravis, urinary retention, enlarged prostate or angle-closure glaucoma.Children under 6 years of age should generally not use the medicine.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist for individual advice.

Side effects

Possible side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, skin hypersensitivity reactions such as itching and hives, dry skin, low blood pressure and increased pulse rate.If you feel unwell or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Important notes

Caution is advised if you are intolerance to sucrose.If you have to follow a diabetes diet, you should consider the sugar content.There may be medicines with which interactions occur.Therefore, before starting treatment with a new medicine, tell your doctor or pharmacist any other medicine you are already using.This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, only use occasionally or that were used some time ago.
