Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo is a calcium-vitamin D3 preparation that is used to prevent and treat vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older people.It also serves as a vitamin D and calcium supplement to support specific therapy for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.No prescription is required for this product.

Dosage and instructions for use

The recommended dose for adults, including the elderly, is 1 chewable tablet twice daily.The tablet is chewed before being swallowed.During pregnancy, the recommended dose is 1 chewable tablet once daily.Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo is not intended for use by children and adolescents under 18 years of age.No dosage adjustment is necessary in cases of liver dysfunction.Patients with severe kidney dysfunction should not take the product.The doctor decides on the duration of the treatment.

Overdose

Overdose can cause loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased fluid intake, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, increased urine output, dehydration, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disorders, bone pain, calcium deposits in the kidneys and kidney stones.In severe cases, cardiac arrhythmias may occur.Sustained high calcium levels can lead to irreversible kidney damage and soft tissue calcification.A chronic overdose can lead to vascular and organ calcification.If an overdose is suspected, a doctor should be contacted immediately.

Side effects

Possible side effects include increased calcium levels, increased calcium excretion in urine, constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea, hives, itching, rash and a shift in the acid-base balance in the blood to the alkaline side.If you experience any discomfort or changes during treatment, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Calcium-Sandoz D Osteo must not be used in the case of elevated calcium levels, increased calcium excretion in the urine, kidney limestones, calcium deposits in the kidneys, impaired kidney function, parathyroid diseases, vitamin D overdose, myeloma and bone metastases.Children and adolescents under the age of 18 are not allowed to take the product.A doctor should be consulted during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Composition

The active ingredients are calcium (as carbonate) and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).One chewable tablet contains 500 mg calcium (as calcium carbonate) and 10 micrograms colecalciferol (equivalent to 400 IU vitamin D3 as colecalciferol dry concentrate).The other ingredients are xylitol, orange flavor (contains isomalt), povidone K 30, magnesium stearate (vegetable), sucralose, all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, sucrose, sodium ascorbate, medium-chain triglycerides, highly dispersed silicon dioxide and modified corn starch.

Mode of action

Calcium ions are crucial for the activation of biological systems.A lack of calcium in the blood increases, an excess reduces neuromuscular excitability.Oral calcium intake promotes skeletal remineralization in cases of calcium deficiency.Colecalciferol is physiological vitamin D3 that is converted to calcitriol in the kidneys and liver.Calcitriol is responsible for the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine and promotes the mineralization of the bones.

Important notes

Caution is advised if you are allergic to ascorbic acid (vitamin C), intolerance to fructose or sucrose.Sugar content should be taken into account when following a diabetes diet.

Storage

The medicine should be kept away from heat, moisture and in the dark.It must not be used after the expiry date stated on the label and carton.The container should be kept tightly closed to protect the contents from moisture.Medicines should never be disposed of via wastewater.Ask your pharmacy how to throw away medicine when you no longer use it.
