Areas of application

Ideos chewable tablets are used for combined vitamin D and calcium deficiency in elderly patients.They also support therapeutic measures for osteoporosis if there is a deficiency of vitamin D and calcium or there is a risk of such a deficiency.

Active ingredients and composition

The active ingredients in Ideos chewable tablets are calcium carbonate and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).One chewable tablet contains 1,250 grams of calcium carbonate, equivalent to 500 milligrams of calcium, and 10 micrograms of vitamin D3, equivalent to 400 international units of colecalciferol.The other ingredients include alpha-tocopherol, xylitol, sorbitol, povidone K30, magnesium stearate, gelatin, sucrose, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, corn starch, lemon flavor and other excipients.

Dosage and application

Adults should take one chewable tablet each morning and evening, which corresponds to a daily dose of 1 gram of calcium and 800 international units of vitamin D3.The tablet should be chewed well and then washed down with a glass of water.The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Ideos chewable tablets must not be taken if you have an allergic reaction to calcium carbonate, colecalciferol, soy, peanut or other components of the drug.The medicine should also not be used if there is an increased calcium content in the blood (hypercalcemia), increased excretion of calcium in the urine (hypercalciuria), kidney stones, impaired kidney function, overdose of vitamin D, certain bone diseases and prolonged immobility.

Side effects

Occasionally, increased calcium levels in the blood or urine as well as tooth decay can occur.Rarely, constipation, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, itching, rashes and hives may occur.In rare cases, severe allergic reactions with swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat/throat may occur.Partially hydrogenated soybean oil can also cause allergic reactions.

Interactions

Ideos chewable tablets may interact with other medicines, especially with cardiac glycosides, thiazide diuretics, other vitamin D preparations, iron or zinc preparations, tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates, estramustine, thyroid hormones and orlistat.Specific time intervals should be maintained between taking Ideos and these medicines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, the daily dose of 1,500 milligrams of calcium and 600 international units of vitamin D3 should not be exceeded.Ideos chewable tablets can be taken while breastfeeding, but you should consult a doctor as to whether the child is already taking preparations containing vitamin D.

Storage

Ideos chewable tablets should be kept out of the reach of children.The tablet tube cap contains a desiccant that keeps the chewable tablets dry.The tablets should not be stored above 25°C and should not be used after the expiry date stated on the tablet tube and carton.

Advice for diabetics

One Ideos chewable tablet contains 1.5 milligrams of sucrose, 500 milligrams of sorbitol and 700 milligrams of xylitol.The amount of carbohydrates corresponds to 0.2 bread units (BE).

Ability to drive and use machines

Ideos is not expected to affect the ability to drive or use machines.
