What is ICHTHOLAN® 50% ointment and what is it used for?

ICHTHOLAN® 50% Ointment is an ointment with an active ingredient from the group of sulfonated shale oils.It has an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, circulation-increasing and pain-relieving effect.The ointment is used for the maturation of boils and abscessing processes, as well as for supportive treatment of gonarthrosis, bruises and sprains.

Areas of application

ICHTHOLAN 50% offers quick help for deeper purulent skin inflammations, such as boils and abscesses.The active ingredient fights bacteria directly in the area of inflammation, inhibits the inflammation and reduces painful symptoms.The black pulling ointment loosens the skin barrier and promotes the drainage of pus.It also relieves pain from knee osteoarthritis, bruises and sprains.

How to use ICHTHOLAN® 50% ointment?

Apply the ointment as thick as a knife to the area of skin to be treated and cover it with a bandage.The dressing should be changed daily, with the remaining ointment being washed off before each new dressing change.As a permanent dressing, a dressing change is planned after 3 days.If used as a permanent bandage, a doctor should be consulted as this requires a special bandaging technique.

What ICHTHOLAN® 50% ointment contains

The active ingredient is ammonium bituminosulfonate (ICHTHYOL®).1 g of ointment contains 0.5 g of ammonium bituminosulfonate (ICHTHYOL®).The other ingredients are yellow petroleum jelly, microcrystalline hydrocarbons (C40-C60), wool wax and purified water.

Mode of action

The active ingredient ammonium bituminosulfonate is a sulfonated shale oil.When applied to the skin, ammonium bituminosulfonate has weak antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if there is proven hypersensitivity to sulfonated shale oils such as ammonium and/or sodium bituminosulfonate or any of the other ingredients.The medicine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed by a doctor.

Dosage and instructions for use

Always use the medicine exactly as directed.Apply the ointment thickly to the area of skin to be treated every day or every other day and cover it with an air-permeable bandage.Use as a permanent dressing should not exceed a maximum of 3 days.The frequency of use depends on the type and severity of the disease as well as the skin reaction.

Storage

Keep the medicine out of the reach and reach of children.It must not be used after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and tube or can.The shelf life of the cans after opening is 18 months, but not beyond the expiry date.The ointment in tubes can be used until the specified expiry date.Do not store the medicine above 25°C and protect it from heat and moisture.

Important notes

No prescription is required for this product.Contains wool wax and butylated hydroxytoluene.If severe skin irritation occurs, the product should be discontinued.Consult a doctor about how to proceed.Do not use a double dose if you have forgotten the previous application.If you stop using it, discuss with a doctor what to do next.
