What is Ichtholan 50% ointment and what is it used for?

Ichtholan 50% ointment is a black ointment that contains the active ingredient ammonium bituminosulfonate (Ichthyol).It is used for the maturation of boils and abscessing processes as well as for supportive treatment of gonarthrosis, bruises and sprains.The ointment has an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, circulation-increasing and pain-relieving effect.

Areas of application

The ointment is used for deeper purulent skin inflammations such as boils and abscesses.It helps fight bacteria, reduce inflammation and draw pus to the surface of the skin.It also relieves pain from knee osteoarthritis, bruises and sprains.

Application and dosage

Apply the ointment to the affected skin area as thick as a knife and cover it with a bandage.The bandage should be changed daily, with the remaining ointment washed off before each new bandage.As a permanent dressing, a dressing change is planned after 3 days.Always use the ointment exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient is ammonium bituminosulfonate (Ichthyol).1 g of ointment contains 0.5 g of ammonium bituminosulfonate.The other ingredients are yellow petroleum jelly, microcrystalline hydrocarbons (C40-C60), wool wax and purified water.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if hypersensitivity to sulfonated shale oils or any of the other ingredients is known.The ointment should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Side effects

If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.Only side effects that have so far only occurred in exceptional cases are described for the drug.

Storage

Keep the ointment out of the reach of children and do not store it above 25°C.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube or can.The shelf life of the cans after opening is 18 months, but not beyond the expiry date.Do not throw away medicines via wastewater or household waste.
