Instructions for use for Lavanid wound gel with 0.04% polihexanide, 1X40 g
Description and product profile
Chronic wounds are often contaminated with dead tissue and germs. For successful treatment, it is necessary to remove the wound plaque and gently clean and moisten the wound.Lavanid - Wundgel and Lavanid Wundgel V+ are sterile, ready-to-use hydrogels that have been specially developed for cleaning and moistening chronic and acute wounds.Lavanid wound gel V+ is more viscous than the conventional Lavanid wound gel. Both products contain polyhexanide as a preservative at a concentration of 0.04%.Polyhexanide is often used to treat chronic wounds and burns. In addition to cleaning and moistening wounds, the wound gels are also suitable for preservative dressings, especially for wounds that are colonized with multi-resistant germs. These dressings reduce the risk of spreading germs and protect the wound from external germs.
Ingredients
The main ingredients of the wound gel are Ringer's solution, glycerin, macrogol, hydroxyethylcellulose and polyhexanide 0.04%.Ringer's solution consists of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride 2 H2O and water for injections.
Areas of application
The wound gel is used to moisten and clean wounds as well as for preservative moistening of dressings and wound dressings.
Tissue compatibility
The combination of Ringer's solution with 0.04% polyhexanide has proven to be very well tolerated by tissue in experimental and clinical studies. The wound gel does not affect the formation of new healthy tissue and does not cause local irritation. The application is painless.Due to its good tissue compatibility, the wound gel is also suitable for repeated and long-term wound treatments.
Application instructions
The wound should first be prepared and cleaned as usual. The wound gel is then applied to the wound or a wound dressing and the wound is dressed as usual. The wound gel remains on the wound until the next dressing change. For optimal moistening, the amount of wound gel should be increased as the intervals between dressing changes increase. In the case of adhesions to the wound, the bandage should be sufficiently moistened with rinsing solution before loosening. If the wound gel is to be reused, the instructions on shelf life must be observed.
Contraindications
The wound gel must not be used if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients or in the area of cartilage and joints. There is currently no sufficient experience with its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The wound gel should therefore only be used if there is a compelling indication.
Precautions for use and warnings
The wound gel is only intended for external use and must not be mixed with additives. It is sterile as long as the package is intact and must not be resterilized. After the expiry date, the wound gel should no longer be used.
Interactions with other agents
When used in combination with other wound treatment products, the instructions for use of these products should be checked for possible interactions with the ingredients of the wound gel.Due to incompatibility problems with the ingredient polyhexanide, the wound gel must not be used in combination with anionic substances, such as anionic surfactants or anionic gelling agents as well as PVP-products containing iodine. If necessary, these substances must be generously rinsed out of the wound if they have previously come into contact with the wound.
Side effects
The ingredient polyhexanide can cause allergic reactions. In individual cases, acute reactions of the immune system (anaphylactic reactions) have been reported.Users and/or patients are encouraged to report any serious incidents that occur in connection with the product to the manufacturer and the relevant authority.
Notes and information on shelf life
The expiry date is stated on the container. After the expiry date, the wound gel should no longer be used. The shelf life after opening is 1 month. The wound gel is sterile as long as the packaging is unopened and undamaged.Although the sterility is no longer valid once the container is opened, due to the preservation, a usage period of one month after opening is possible. The prerequisite for this is that the contents are protected from contamination. The container must not come into contact with the wound. The opening must be closed again immediately after each use.Gel residue at the opening should be wiped off with a sterile compress.

Disposal of unused products or waste material must be carried out in accordance with specific national regulations.
