Octenisept solution

Octenisept solution is an antiseptic that is used to disinfect and support the treatment of wounds.It effectively protects against infections in acute and chronic wounds as well as burn wounds on the skin and mucous membranes.The solution is also suitable for preparing skin and mucous membrane surfaces before diagnostic and surgical procedures.Due to the alcohol-free composition, the application is usually painless and therefore also suitable for infants and premature babies.Octenisept solution is colorless.

Mode of action

Octenisept solution works quickly and for a long time.The antiseptic active ingredient octenidine interacts with the structures in the shell of microorganisms and causes lasting damage.Phenoxyethanol supports the bactericidal properties of octenidine, so that bacteria, fungi and certain viruses on the skin and mucous membranes are reliably eliminated.

Active ingredients and ingredients

100 g of Octenisept solution contains octenidine hydrochloride 0.1 g and phenoxyethanol (Ph. Eur.) 2.0 g as active ingredients.Other ingredients include: (3-coco fatty acid amidopropyl) dimethylazaniumyl acetate, sodium D-gluconate, glycerol 85%, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide and purified water.

Area of application

Octenisept solution is used for the antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and adjacent skin before diagnostic and surgical measures.It can also be used in the ano-genital area of the vagina, vulva, glans penis and before catheterization of the urinary bladder.It is also suitable for supportive therapy for fungal diseases of the skin between the toes and for supportive antiseptic wound treatment.

Application

Octenisept solution is applied to the area to be disinfected and should cover it completely and evenly.Leave the product to work for at least a minute and do not rinse with water.To treat the wound, carefully rub the area to be treated one after the other with at least two medicine-soaked swabs.The wound must be completely wetted.Before taking further measures, such as applying a wound dressing, wait for the minimum exposure time of 1 to 2 minutes.To support the treatment of fungal diseases of the skin between the toes, the medicine should be sprayed onto the affected areas in the morning and evening.

Contraindications

If you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, Octenisept solution should not be used.The use of the solution as a rinse in the abdominal cavity, the urinary bladder and the eardrum is also contraindicated.

Patient information

Octenisept solution is intended for superficial use and must not be injected into the depths of the tissue using a syringe.Do not use the preparation together with PVP-iodine.No prescription is required for this product.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Current experience with pregnant women does not indicate any risk.There are no sufficient animal experimental and clinical data on use during breastfeeding.Since octenidine dihydrochloride is not absorbed or only absorbed in very small amounts, it can be assumed that it does not pass into breast milk.Phenoxyethanol is quickly and practically completely absorbed and excreted almost quantitatively as an oxidation product via the kidneys.Accumulation in breast milk is therefore unlikely.

Notes

Do not use Octenisept solution after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
