Calcigen D Citro 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets contain the active ingredients calcium carbonate and vitamin D3 (colecalciferol).Calcium is an important component of bones, while vitamin D3 improves the absorption of calcium from the intestine and its incorporation into the bones.This product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

Calcigen D Citro 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets are used to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older patients.They can also be used as an adjunct to specific osteoporosis treatment if patients have been diagnosed with a combined vitamin D and calcium deficiency or are at high risk of such deficiencies.

Dosage and application

The usual dose for adults and the elderly is one tablet twice daily.Pregnant women should only take one tablet per day.The chewable tablets should be chewed and swallowed with a little liquid.In exceptional cases they can also be sucked.The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.This preparation is not suitable for children and adolescents.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Calcigen D Citro 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased calcium levels in the blood, increased calcium excretion in the urine, nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, itchy skin, rash and hives.In rare cases, serious allergic reactions may occur.If any of the listed side effects worsen, you should stop taking it and consult a doctor.

Contraindications

Calcigen D Citro 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D or one of the other ingredients, if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high or increased calcium excretion in the urine, if you have kidney stones or calcium deposits in the kidneys, if you have kidney failure, if you have hyperactive parathyroid glands, if you have myeloma or bone metastases and if you have a vitamin D overdose.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the product if you suffer from kidney stones, sarcoidosis or kidney dysfunction or are taking other vitamin D or calcium-containing products at the same time.

Warnings and precautions

During long-term treatment, serum calcium levels and renal function should be checked regularly.Before taking, consider the amount of vitamin D, calcium and alkali already taken from other sources.An additional administration of Calcigen D Citro 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets should be given under medical supervision with regular checking of the calcium levels in the blood and urine.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take the medicine two hours before or after meals to avoid possible interference with iron absorption.

Storage

Keep medicines out of the reach of children.Calcigen D Citro 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets must not be used after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and blister.They should not be stored above 25°C.

Composition

1 Chewable tablet contains 1500 mg calcium carbonate (corresponding to 600 mg calcium) and 4 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate (corresponding to 400 IU vitamin D3).Other ingredients are xylitol, mannitol, magnesium stearate, highly disperse silicon dioxide, pre-gelatinized corn starch, butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), medium-chain triglycerides, sucrose, gelatin, modified starch, sodium aluminum silicate and flavorings.
