Area of application

Leukichtan 10% gel contains the active ingredient sodium bituminosulfonate, light, also known as ichthyol sodium.It belongs to the group of sulfonated shale oils and is used to heal wounds.The gel is used for the symptomatic treatment of non-infected, non-necrotized wounds, especially in venous leg ulcers with clean wound conditions in chronic venous insufficiency.

100 g of the gel contains 10.0 g of sodium bituminosulfonate, light. In addition, the gel contains the following excipients: poloxamer 407, propylene glycol, butylhydroxytoluene and purified water.Propylene glycol and butylated hydroxytoluene can cause skin irritation.

Contraindications

Leukichtan 10% Gel must not be used if you are allergic to sulfonated shale oils such as ammonium bituminosulfonate and/or sodium bituminosulfonate or to any of the other ingredients.The gel must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding as there is insufficient knowledge about the risks.

Dosage

Apply Leukichtan 10% gel to damaged skin once or twice a day.The wound conditions must be clean before application.The gel is applied thickly (2 - 2.5 mm) to the wound to be treated and used for a total period of 20 weeks.The bandage is then made with fatty gauze, sterile compresses and an elastic bandage.Additional compression therapy is mandatory.Every time the dressing is changed, the wound is showered with clear water to remove plaque and gel residue.The duration of use should not exceed 20 weeks.

Intake

Leukichtan 10% gel is intended for application to damaged skin.After use, you should wash your hands thoroughly to avoid accidental contact with mucous membranes and eyes.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Leukichtan 10% gel.The gel has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

Leukichtan 10% gel must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding as there is insufficient knowledge about the risks.Possible effects on the development of the unborn child and on the period after birth as well as the transfer of the active substance into breast milk have not been investigated.
