Instructions for use of Fenistil drops

Fenistil drops contain the active ingredient dimetindene maleate and belong to the group of antihistamines.They are used to relieve symptoms such as itching, allergic rhinitis, hives and insect bites.The active ingredient inhibits the effects of histamine, a substance that the body releases during allergic reactions.This relieves itching, irritation, swelling and other allergy symptoms.

Areas of application

Fenistil drops are used for the symptomatic relief of histamine-related itching, chickenpox-associated itching in small children, allergic rhinitis in patients over 6 years of age, hives and insect bites.

Mode of action

The active ingredient dimetindene maleate is an antihistamine and inhibits the effects of histamine, which is released by the body during allergic reactions.This relieves allergy symptoms such as itching, rash and runny nose.

Ingredients

1 ml (approx. 20 drops) Fenistil drops contain 1 mg dimetindene maleate as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are purified water, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, citric acid monohydrate, benzoic acid, sodium edetate, saccharin sodium and propylene glycol.

Contraindications

Fenistil drops must not be taken if you are allergic to dimetindene maleate or any of the other ingredients.Infants and children under 1 year of age must not take Fenistil drops.If you have glaucoma, difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate, epilepsy, or if you are 65 years of age or older, you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

Dosage and application

Adults and teenagers aged 12 and over take 20-40 drops 3 times a day.For patients prone to drowsiness, it is recommended to take 40 drops at bedtime and 20 drops in the morning.Children aged 1 to 11 years receive 2 drops per kg of body weight, divided into 3 individual doses.The drops are taken undiluted.

Side effects

Possible side effects include fatigue, sleepiness, nervousness, agitation, headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, dry mouth and throat.If you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, swelling or severe itching, you should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor.

Storage

Fenistil drops should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C and kept in the original packaging.Once opened they have a shelf life of 6 months.
