Instructions for use for BIFITERAL Syrup, 200 ml
Instructions for use of Bifiteral Syrup
Bifiteral syrup contains the active ingredient lactulose, which acts as a laxative. It is used for constipation that cannot be relieved by a high-fiber diet.It can also be used for diseases that require easier bowel movements, such as hemorrhoids or rectal surgery, as well as for the prevention and treatment of portocaval encephalopathy. No prescription is required for this product.
Mode of action
Lactulose is broken down by the bacteria in the large intestine and changes the acid-base balance. This stimulates the intestinal wall to move more, which makes it easier for the intestinal contents to be removed. In addition, the high concentration of broken down components draws water into the intestine, which softens the intestinal contents and increases in volume. This triggers a reflex to empty the bowels. In portocaval encephalopathy, lactulose lowers the ammonia concentration in the blood by preventing the reabsorption of ammonia from the intestine into the bloodstream.
Areas of application
