Areas of application

Calcium D3 beta is a mineral and vitamin combination preparation.It is used to compensate for concurrent calcium and vitamin D deficiency in the elderly and to support specific osteoporosis treatment in patients with proven or high risk of concurrent calcium and vitamin D deficiency.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredients in Calcium D3 beta are calcium (as carbonate) and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).One effervescent tablet contains 1000 mg calcium (as calcium carbonate) and 880 IU vitamin D3 (corresponding to 22 µg colecalciferol).The other ingredients include RRR-alpha-tocopherol, hydrogenated soybean oil, gelatin, sucrose (sugar), corn starch, citric acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate, lactose monohydrate, povidone K 25, saccharin sodium, sodium cyclamate, macrogol 6000, dimeticone, colloidal silicon dioxide, methyl cellulose and orange juice flavor.

Contraindications

Calcium D3 beta must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D3, soy, peanut or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.The preparation should also not be used if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high, an overactive parathyroid gland, vitamin D overdose, certain tumors, lung diseases such as sarcoidosis or if limbs are immobilized.

Dosage

The recommended dose is 1000 mg calcium and 880 IU vitamin D3 daily, corresponding to 1 effervescent tablet once daily.The effervescent tablets are dissolved in a glass of water.The duration of treatment should be discussed individually with the doctor.

Side effects

Possible side effects include constipation, bloating, nausea, stomach pain and diarrhea.In the first few months of use, there may be increased calcium excretion in the urine, which can promote stone formation.Renal insufficiency and long-term use of high doses can lead to an increase in the calcium concentration in the blood and increased calcium excretion in the urine.

Intake

The effervescent tablets are dissolved in a glass of water.You can take the medicine with food or between meals.

Patient information

Particular caution is required if there is impaired kidney function, a tendency to form kidney stones and kidney calcification, and if the phosphate concentration in the blood is low.Drinking plenty of fluids can reduce the risk of calcium salts and kidney and urinary stones forming.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, Calcium D3 beta should only be taken according to strict indications and only in the dosage that is absolutely necessary to correct the deficiency.Overdoses of vitamin D during pregnancy must be prevented, as long-term hypercalcemia can lead to physical and mental disability as well as congenital heart and eye diseases in the child.

Calcium D3 beta is not intended for use by children and adolescents.The preparation contains soybean oil, sucrose (sugar) and lactose.No prescription is required for this product.
