What is Betaisodona ointment and what is it used for?
Betaisodona ointment is a germicidal agent (antiseptic) for use on skin and wounds.It is used repeatedly and for a limited period of time for antiseptic wound treatment of damaged skin, such as pressure sores, lower leg ulcers, superficial wounds, burns and infected and superinfected skin diseases.No prescription is required for this product.
How to use Betaisodona ointment?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.Betaisodona ointment is intended exclusively for external use.
Apply the ointment evenly to the damaged area one to several times a day.If necessary, a bandage can then be applied.The brown color of the ointment indicates its effectiveness.If the discoloration increases, the ointment should be reapplied.The application should be continued as long as there are still signs of inflammation.

Cleaning instructions
Betaisodona ointment is fat-free and washable.It can generally be removed from textiles and other materials with warm water and soap.In stubborn cases, ammonia (spirit ammonia) or fixing salt (sodium thiosulfate), which are available in pharmacies or drugstores, can help.
How should Betaisodona ointment be stored?

What Betaisodona ointment contains
The active ingredient is povidone-iodine.1 g of Betaisodona ointment contains 100 mg of povidone-iodine with a content of 10% available iodine.The average molecular weight of povidone is about 40,000.
The other ingredients are: Macrogole 400, 1000, 1500, 4000, sodium bicarbonate, purified water.
Areas of application
Betaisodona ointment is used for repeated, time-limited use as an antiseptic for damaged skin.These include decubitus (pressure ulcers), leg ulcers (leg ulcers), superficial wounds and burns, and infected and superinfected skin diseases.
Mode of action
The iodine contained in Betaisodona ointment has a germicidal and disinfecting effect.It is effective against a variety of pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be used in the case of hyperthyroidism or another existing thyroid disease, in the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, during and until the end of radiation therapy with iodine (radio-iodine therapy) or if such treatment is planned, as well as in the case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or one of the other ingredients.
Dosage

Patient information
Take special care when using it if you suffer from thyroid disease or have goiter.In this case, you should only use the product over a longer period of time and over large areas if your doctor has expressly instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended, you should pay attention to early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism and, if necessary, monitor thyroid function.
In newborns and infants up to the age of 6 months, the preparation should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.A check of thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the ointment by the infant while breastfeeding must be avoided.
The preparation has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
Pregnancy
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the ointment should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the ointment by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the breastfeeding mother's body must be avoided.
