Instructions for use of Allergodil acute nasal spray

Allergodil acute nasal spray is an antiallergic/antihistamine and contains the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) in adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and over.No prescription is required for this product.

Application and dosage

The recommended dose is 1 spray of Allergodil acute nasal spray per nostril twice a day (morning and evening), which corresponds to a daily dose of 0.56 mg azelastine hydrochloride.The application is carried out with the head in an upright position.After removing the protective cap, pump several times for the first use until an even spray mist emerges.A spray is then applied to each nostril and the protective cap is put back on.

The duration of use depends on the type, severity and course of the symptoms.Allergodil acute nasal spray is suitable for long-term treatment.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

Composition

The active ingredient is azelastine hydrochloride.1 spray of 0.14 ml contains 0.14 mg azelastine hydrochloride.The other ingredients are sodium edetate, hypromellose, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, citric acid, sodium chloride and purified water.

Storage

Keep Allergodil acute nasal spray out of the reach of children and do not store it below 8 °C.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the label and carton.After opening the bottle, the nasal spray should not be used for longer than 6 months.If Allergodil acute nasal spray is accidentally stored below +8 °C for a long time, crystals may form.This solution should not be used.However, when stored for a longer period of time at room temperature, the crystals dissolve completely and the clear solution can be used again.

Do not throw away medicines via wastewater or household waste.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine if you no longer need it.In doing so, you contribute to protecting the environment.

Dosage and instructions for use

Children aged 6 and over and adults should use 1 spray per nostril twice daily in the morning and evening.The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.Spray the medicine into each nostril while breathing lightly through your nose.Before use, clean your nose by blowing your nose vigorously and keep your head upright.

You should not use the medicine for longer than 6 months without medical advice.After this time, you should definitely take a break from treatment.The application should be continued as long as there is contact with the allergy-causing substance (e.g. pollen).

There are no known symptoms of overdose.If in doubt, contact your doctor.Continue the application as normal (i.e. not with double the amount) at the next prescribed time.Pay attention to careful dosage, especially for infants, small children and older people.The dosage prescribed by the doctor may differ from the information in the package insert.

Contraindications

Allergodil acute nasal spray must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients.Children under 6 years of age should not use the medicine.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult your doctor.According to current knowledge, use during breastfeeding is not recommended.

Side effects

Possible side effects include irritation in the nose such as burning of the mucous membranes, tingling on the mucous membranes, sneezing and nosebleeds.Taste disorders (bitter taste) can also occur.If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Mode of action

The active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride prevents the allergic reaction by keeping histamine away from the mucous membranes.In this way, the active ingredient combats the unpleasant allergic symptoms in the eyes and nose such as itching, redness, swelling or sneezing within minutes.
