Olynth 0.1% runny nose dosing spray is a nasal spray that is used to reduce the swelling of the nasal mucosa in various forms of runny nose.The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride has vasoconstricting properties and thereby reduces swelling in the nasal mucosa.This product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

Olynth 0.1% runny nose dosing spray is used to reduce the swelling of the nasal mucosa in the event of a runny nose, episodic runny nose (rhinitis vasomotorica) and allergic runny nose (rhinitis allergica).It also facilitates the drainage of secretions in cases of inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and otitis media (catarrh of the tubal middle ear) in conjunction with a runny nose.The spray is suitable for school children and adults.

Mode of action

The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride contracts the dilated veins of the nasal mucosa, which reduces blood circulation and causes the mucous membrane to swell.This makes it easier to breathe through your nose and reduces the feeling of pressure in your head.The effect occurs after just 2 minutes and can last up to 12 hours.

Ingredients

1 ml Olynth 0.1% cold dosage spray contains 1 mg xylometazoline hydrochloride as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are benzalkonium chloride solution, sodium edetate (Ph. Eur.), sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dihydrate (Ph. Eur.), Sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallizing) (Ph. Eur.) and purified water.

Application

Before the first use, the spray mechanism should be activated several times until an even spray mist emerges.Before use, clean your nose by blowing your nose vigorously.Insert the spray opening into your nostril and press the spray head once while inhaling gently through your nose.Repeat the process on the other side if necessary.After each use, wipe the spray head and replace the protective cap.The spray should not be used for longer than 7 days without medical advice.Reapplication should only be carried out after a break of several days.

Contraindications

Olynth 0.1% runny nose dosing spray must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to xylometazoline hydrochloride or one of the other ingredients, in cases of dry inflammation of the nasal mucosa with crust formation (rhinitis sicca) and in infants and children under 6 years of age.In case of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, increased intraocular pressure and other specific diseases, a doctor should be consulted before use.

Side effects

Possible side effects include increased mucous membrane swelling after the effect has worn off, nosebleeds, sneezing, heart palpitations, increased pulse rate, increase in blood pressure, hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash and itching, headache, insomnia, tiredness, illusions (hallucinations), cardiac arrhythmias, cramps, burning or dryness of the nasal mucosa.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

The medicine should not be used during pregnancy as there are insufficient studies on the unborn child.It should not be used during breastfeeding as it is not known whether the active ingredient or its breakdown products pass into breast milk.

Storage
