What are Emesan® tablets and what are they used for?

Emesan® tablets are an anti-nausea and vomiting agent that belongs to the group of H1 antihistamines.They are used for the prevention and symptomatic treatment of nausea and vomiting of various causes, especially motion sickness.No prescription is required for this product.

How should Emesan® tablets be taken?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.The recommended dose is:

Adults: 1 tablet (equivalent to 50 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride), maximum 3 tablets per day (equivalent to 150 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride).

Children over 12 years and adolescents: 1 tablet (equivalent to 50 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride), maximum 2 tablets per day (equivalent to 100 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride).

Children aged 6-12 years: ½ tablet (equivalent to 25 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride), maximum 1 tablet per day (equivalent to 50 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride).

Special patient groups such as patients with impaired liver or kidney function, elderly or debilitated patients should receive lower doses.To prevent nausea and vomiting, the lowest single dose per day should be taken initially.If acute symptoms occur, the dose can be increased to the maximum daily dose, leaving at least 4-6 hours between doses.

Take the tablets whole with liquid and swallow them quickly to avoid the taste in your mouth.To prevent motion sickness, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before departure.

The duration of treatment should be as short as possible.If symptoms persist, please see a doctor.

How should Emesan® tablets be stored?

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the package.Do not store the medicine above 25 °C and do not dispose of it in wastewater.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine when you no longer use it.

What Emesan® tablets contain

The active ingredient is diphenhydramine hydrochloride.1 tablet contains 50 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride.

The other ingredients are magnesium stearate, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, carboxymethyl starch sodium (type A) and highly disperse silicon dioxide.

Dosage and instructions for use

Children from 6 to 12 years: ½ tablet 1-2 times a day at least 4-6 hours apart, regardless of meal.

Adolescents aged 12 and over: 1 tablet 1-2 times a day at least 4-6 hours apart, regardless of meals.

Adults: 1 tablet 1-3 times daily at least 4-6 hours apart, regardless of meal.

To prevent motion sickness: Children aged 6 to 12 years: ½ tablet once a day before traveling (approx. 30 minutes), regardless of the meal.Adolescents aged 12 and over: 1 tablet once a day before departure (approx. 30 minutes), regardless of the meal.Adults: 1 tablet once daily before departure (approx. 30 minutes), regardless of the meal.

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Type of application

Take the medicine with liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).

Duration of application

The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease.As a rule, however, the duration of treatment should be as short as possible and only be a few days.If symptoms persist for a long time, you should consult your doctor.

Mode of action

The active ingredient diphenhydramine blocks receptors for the messenger histamine.Through this blockade, it suppresses vasodilatation triggered by histamine and increased blood flow to the smallest hair vessels.It also combats nausea via the same mechanism and has a calming and sleep-inducing effect.

Important notes

The ability to react can also be impaired when used as intended, especially in higher doses or in combination with alcohol.Pay particular attention when you drive or operate machines (including at home) that could cause you injury.

Avoid excessive UV-radiation, e.g. B. in solariums or during extensive sunbathing because the skin reacts more sensitively while using the medication.

Sudden discontinuation may cause problems or discomfort.Therefore, treatment should be ended slowly, i.e. by gradually tapering off the dose.It is best to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Be careful if you have an intolerance to lactose.If you have to follow a diabetes diet, you should consider the sugar content.

There may be medicines with which interactions occur.You should therefore generally tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting treatment with a new medicine that you are already using.This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, only use occasionally or that were used some time ago.
