Gelusil Lac is a stomach acid binding agent known as an antacid.It is used for various acid complaints such as heartburn or acid reflux.It also supports the treatment of gastric ulcers (ventricular ulcers) and duodenal ulcers (duodenal ulcers).No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The active ingredient is aluminum magnesium silicate (1:2:3) in a dosage of 500 mg per chewable tablet.The other ingredients include vanilla cream flavor, vanilla flavor, dry skimmed milk (contains lactose monohydrate), magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.) and sucrose.

Contraindications

Gelusil Lac must not be taken if you are allergic to aluminum magnesium silicate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The medicine should also not be used if the phosphate level in the blood is low (hypophosphatemia) or if the narrow areas in the large intestine are blocked (stenoses).In addition, it must not be given to infants.

Dosage

Always take Gelusil Lac exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.The recommended dose is up to 3 chewable tablets several times a day if necessary.The daily dose should not exceed 9 chewable tablets, equivalent to 4500 mg aluminum magnesium silicate.

The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity as well as the course of the disease.If the symptoms do not subside during treatment, the doctor should clarify possible causes after 2 weeks at the latest.Do not take this medicine for more than 14 days without medical or dental advice.

In the event of an overdose, poisoning is unlikely due to the low absorption of aluminum and magnesium.However, changes in bowel habits such as softening of the stool or constipation may occur.

Intake

The chewable tablets are intended to be taken orally (chewed or sucked).Other medicines should generally be taken 1 to 2 hours before or after taking Gelusil Lac.You should also take Gelusil Lac 1 to 2 hours after meals and before going to bed.

Patient information

Take special care when taking Gelusil Lac if you have impaired kidney function.In this case, magnesium and aluminum serum levels should be checked regularly.For patients with chronic kidney failure or liver dysfunction, regular medical examinations are useful in order to detect accumulation of aluminum in various tissues at an early stage.

Antacids should not be taken over long periods of time and in high doses.In patients with gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer, testing for H. pylori and, if confirmed, approved eradication therapy should be considered.

Do not give the medicine to children up to 12 years of age, as there is not yet sufficient experience to make a general recommendation for this age group.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

The benefit-risk ratio should be carefully considered before taking aluminum-containing antacids during pregnancy.You should only use the medicine for a short time during pregnancy to avoid exposing the child to aluminum.

Aluminum compounds pass into breast milk.There is no risk to the newborn as only very small amounts are absorbed.
