Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies are an anti-allergic medication that is used for the symptomatic treatment of various allergic complaints.These include chronic hives, which manifests itself as itching, hives and redness, as well as itching in neurodermatitis.The medication also helps with chronic allergic rhinitis, hay fever, pollen allergy and sun allergy.It can also be used to help with asthma caused by allergies as well as with scabies or conjunctivitis to relieve itching.Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies are well tolerated and can be used in children from 2 years of age.

Mode of action

The active ingredient cetirizine in Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies is an antihistamine.During an allergic reaction, the body releases various messenger substances, including histamine.This triggers symptoms such as redness, watery eyes, itching and swelling.Cetirizine blocks the binding sites for histamine in the body and thus relieves allergic symptoms within half an hour of ingestion.This applies to chronic hives, chronic allergic rhinitis and hay fever.

Active ingredients and ingredients

1 Milliliter (equivalent to 20 drops) of Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies contains 10 milligrams of cetirizine dihydrochloride.This means that one drop of the solution contains 0.5 milligrams of cetirizine dihydrochloride.Other ingredients include glycerol 85%, sodium acetate trihydrate, propylene glycol and purified water.

Contraindications

Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies must not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to one of the ingredients, if you have severe kidney failure, if you are allergic to piperazine derivatives, in infants and children under 2 years of age and if you are breastfeeding.Use during pregnancy should be avoided due to insufficient experience.Before taking, you should consult your doctor if you have impaired kidney function, difficulty urinating, epilepsy or are at risk of seizures.You should also consult your doctor if you are taking other medications at the same time.

Dosage

The length of time you take Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms and is determined by your doctor.Unless otherwise prescribed, young people aged 12 and over and adults take 20 drops once a day, preferably in the evening.Children 6 to 12 years old take 10 drops twice daily, and children 2 to 6 years old take 5 drops twice daily.Patients with moderate kidney failure are recommended to take 10 drops once daily.

Patient information

Take special care when taking the medicine if you have impaired kidney function, epilepsy or are at risk of seizures.In these cases you should ask your doctor for advice.No interactions with significant effects have been observed between alcohol and cetirizine at normal doses.However, it is recommended to avoid taking alcohol at the same time.

In clinical studies, the drug at the recommended dose did not cause any signs of impairment of attention, alertness or ability to drive.If you intend to drive, work without a secure footing or operate machines, you should not use more than the recommended dose.Monitor your reaction to the medicine carefully.If you are sensitive, alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may further impair your attention and responsiveness.

Pregnancy

Taking Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding and only after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
