Areas of application

Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies are used to relieve symptoms of chronic hives, itching in neurodermatitis, chronic allergic rhinitis, hay fever, pollen allergy and sun allergy.They can also be used to support asthma caused by allergies and to relieve the symptoms of itching caused by scabies or conjunctivitis.The drug is suitable for children from 2 years old.

Mode of action

The active ingredient cetirizine in Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies is an antihistamine.During an allergic reaction, the body releases histamine, which causes symptoms such as redness, watery eyes, itching, and swelling.Cetirizine blocks the binding sites for histamine in the body and thus relieves allergic symptoms within half an hour of ingestion.

1 ml (equivalent to 20 drops) Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride.One drop of the solution contains 0.5 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride.Other ingredients include glycerol 85%, sodium acetate trihydrate, propylene glycol and purified water.

Contraindications

Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies must not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to one of the ingredients, if you have severe kidney failure, if you are allergic to piperazine derivatives, in infants and children under 2 years of age and if you are breastfeeding.Use during pregnancy should be avoided due to insufficient experience.Before taking it, you should ask your doctor for advice if you suffer from impaired kidney function, have difficulty urinating, have epilepsy or are also taking other medications.

Dosage

The length of time you take Cetirizine HEXAL® drops for allergies depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms and is determined by your doctor.Unless otherwise prescribed, adolescents aged 12 and over and adults take 10 mg (20 drops) once daily, preferably in the evening.Children 6 to 12 years old take 5 mg (10 drops) twice daily, and children 2 to 6 years old take 2.5 mg (5 drops) twice daily.Patients with moderate kidney failure are recommended to take 5 mg (10 drops) once daily.

Patient information

Take special care when taking this medicine if you suffer from impaired kidney function or epilepsy.No interactions with significant effects have been observed between alcohol and cetirizine at normal doses.However, it is recommended to avoid taking alcohol at the same time.In clinical studies, the drug at the recommended dose did not cause any signs of impairment of attention, alertness or ability to drive.If you plan to drive, work without a secure footing or operate machines, you should not use more than the recommended dose and carefully monitor your reaction to the medicine.

Pregnancy
