Artelac® EDO® is a proven remedy for relieving discomfort caused by a slight feeling of dryness in the eyes, which is often accompanied by a feeling of a foreign body.The active ingredient hypromellose helps prevent the surface of the eye from drying out and provides pleasant relief of symptoms.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

Artelac® EDO® eye drops are suitable for contact lens wearers and are used for the symptomatic treatment of drying out of the cornea and conjunctiva.These can arise from tear secretion and tear function disorders as a result of local or systemic diseases as well as insufficient or incomplete eyelid closure.Symptoms can include burning eyes, foreign body sensation and photophobia due to wind, heat and fatigue.The eye drops are also suitable for wetting and re-wetting soft and hard contact lenses.

Ingredients of Artelac® EDO® eye drops: 1 ml solution contains 3.20 mg hypromellose.The other ingredients are sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (Ph. Eur.), sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sorbitol (Ph. Eur.) and water for injections.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the above ingredients, the product should not be used.

Dosage

Recommended use of Artelac® EDO® eye drops: Drip 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 3 to 5 times a day or more frequently.The contents of a one-dose ophtiol are sufficient for simultaneous use in both eyes.

Patient information

Since the instillation into the conjunctival sac of the eye can result in blurred vision that only lasts a few minutes due to the formation of streaks, you should not operate machines, work without a secure grip, or drive during this time.

Pregnancy

Before using Artelac® EDO® eye drops, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.It should only be used after the doctor has carefully weighed the benefits and risks.

Notes

Do not store above 25°C.This medicine contains 0.068 mg phosphates per drop, equivalent to 1.84 mg/ml.If you suffer from severe damage to the cornea, phosphates during treatment can in very rare cases cause clouding of the cornea due to calcium deposits.

What should be taken into account when Artelac® EDO® is used together with other medicines?If you also use other medicines on your eyes, there should be an interval of around 15 minutes between the different preparations.Artelac® EDO® should always be used last so that the duration and thus the effect are not shortened.

Can Artelac® EDO® be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.The use of Artelac® EDO® during pregnancy or breastfeeding should only take place after careful medical benefit-risk assessment.

Can Artelac® EDO® affect the ability to drive and use machines? Since this medicine, even when used as intended, has a short-term effect on visual performance and thus on the ability to react due to the formation of streaks, you should not drive, work without a secure footing or operate machines during this time.

How should Artelac® EDO® be stored?Do not store Artelac® EDO® above 25 °C and do not keep one-dose ophtiols that have already been opened!Artelac® EDO® does not contain any preservative.

Application

Separate a one-dose ophtiol from the bar and hold it by the label side.Unscrew the cap of the one-dose ophtiol.Tilt your head back and use the index finger of one hand to pull the lower eyelid down.Hold the one-dose ophtiol with your other hand vertically over the eye (without touching the eye) and gently press the one-dose ophtiol with your finger to instill a drop into the pulled-down conjunctival sac.Slowly close your eye and move it back and forth to allow the drop to spread well.The contents of a one-dose ophtiol are sufficient for simultaneous use in both eyes.
