Directions for use of the article Braunovidon ointment: Braunovidon ointment (active ingredient: povidone-iodine) is used for repeated, temporary application as an antiseptic for damaged skin. It can be used for a wide variety of skin problems such as decubitus (pressure ulcers), leg ulcers, superficial wounds, burns and infected and superinfected skin conditions. It is important to read the package leaflet and consult a doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or if symptoms worsen. The dosage and instructions for use are as follows: Apply the ointment several times a day, depending on the size of the areas to be treated. For severely inflamed or weeping wounds, the ointment should be reapplied every 4-6 hours for optimal effect. The ointment can remain on the wound for a longer period of time and should be reapplied at the latest after discolouration. Dosing beyond 5 days should only be done on medical advice. There are some contraindications to consider: The ointment must not be used if you are hypersensitive to povidone-iodine or the other ingredients, suffer from thyroid disease, have dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring or if radioiodine therapy of the thyroid gland is planned or has been performed. In addition, babies under 6 months of age should not use the ointment. Special care should be taken as povidone-iodine may interact with mercury derivatives and certain other medicinal products. Regular use of the ointment should be avoided if lithium preparations are used. In addition, povidone-iodine may interfere with certain diagnostic tests. Pregnant women should only use the medicinal product after a careful risk-benefit assessment by the doctor treating them. The ointment must not be used during breast-feeding. Possible side effects include impaired wound healing, pain at the site of application, a feeling of warmth at the site of application, contact dermatitis, acute anaphylactic reactions and thyroid dysfunction. The ointment should be kept out of the reach of children and at a storage temperature below 25°C.
