Braunovidon ointment, 100 g

Description

Braunovidon® ointment 10% is a germicidal agent for wound cleansing.The ointment contains povidone-iodine in a fat-free, well-tolerated base.It is easy to spread on the skin.The active ingredient povidone-iodine is effective against bacteria, fungi, tuberculosis pathogens, protozoa and viruses.The effect sets in quickly and no resistance develops.

Areas of application

Braunovidon® ointment is used for antimicrobial skin and wound treatment.It is used for damaged skin such as pressure sores, leg ulcers, superficial wounds, burns and infected skin diseases.The product is available without a prescription.

Application

The ointment is applied several times a day if necessary, depending on the size of the area to be treated.For severely inflamed or weeping wounds, the ointment should be renewed every 4-6 hours to achieve optimal effect.The ointment can remain on the wound for a long time and should be reapplied at the latest after it has been discolored.

The brown color of the ointment indicates the presence of available iodine and therefore its effectiveness.When the brown color subsides, ointment should be applied again to ensure complete coverage of the affected areas.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is povidone-iodine.100 g of ointment contains 10 g of povidone-iodine with 10% available iodine.The other ingredients are Macrogol 400, Macrogol 4000, purified water and sodium bicarbonate.

Contraindications

Braunovidon® ointment must not be used if you are hypersensitive to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients.The ointment should also not be used in the case of thyroid diseases, dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring or if radioiodine therapy is planned or carried out.In addition, use in newborns and infants up to 6 months of age is not permitted.

Dosage

The ointment is applied several times a day if necessary, depending on the size of the area to be treated.When starting to treat severely inflamed or weeping wounds, the ointment should be renewed every 4-6 hours.The duration of application depends on the respective indication.

If you have used more than you should, it may not harm the wound.Excess ointment should be removed with a clean cloth to avoid soiling clothing.If you accidentally ingest large amounts of the ointment, seek medical advice immediately.

If you forget to use it, continue treatment according to the indicated dosage.If you stop using it, the condition of the wound may worsen.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using it, as povidone-iodine must not be used simultaneously or shortly afterwards with mercury derivatives.The oxidizing effect of povidone-iodine can influence various diagnostic examinations.When given povidone-iodine, thyroid uptake of iodine may be reduced, which may interfere with certain thyroid tests.

No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

Pregnancy

Braunovidon® ointment should only be used up to the 9th week of pregnancy after careful consideration of the benefits and risks by the treating doctor.The ointment must not be used after the 9th week of pregnancy or during breastfeeding, as iodine crosses the placenta and passes into breast milk.

Notes

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack.When the brown color of the ointment subsides, the area of skin to be treated should be coated again with fresh ointment.After use in infants and small children, thyroid function should be checked by a doctor.
