Betaisodona ointment is a germicidal agent used for antiseptic wound treatment of damaged skin. It is used to treat pressure ulcers, lower leg ulcers, superficial wounds, burns and infected and superinfected skin conditions. The ointment is applied to the affected area once or several times a day and can be covered with a bandage if necessary. The application should be continued as long as there are signs of inflammation. If the ointment has largely discoloured, it should be reapplied. The ointment is for external use only. It should be kept away from heat and inaccessible to children. Side effects may include skin reactions such as itching, redness and blistering. The medicine must not be used if there is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or in hyperthyroidism, certain thyroid diseases, an immune disorder with an itchy rash, before or after radioiodine therapy or mercury poisoning. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use. The ointment contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine, which has an antimicrobial effect.
