Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun is an infusion solution that is used to supply fluid and salts into the body.It is administered via a venous drip and is particularly useful in the following situations: when the acid-base balance is normal or slightly disturbed, when water or water and salts have been lost, when blood has been lost and needs to be replaced at short notice, or when salts or certain medicines need to be dissolved or diluted.

Active ingredients and composition

The active ingredients in 1000 ml of the solution are: sodium chloride (6.00 g), sodium lactate solution (6.24 g, equivalent to sodium lactate 3.12 g), potassium chloride (0.40 g) and calcium chloride dihydrate (0.27 g).The electrolyte concentrations are: sodium 131 mmol/l, potassium 5.4 mmol/l, calcium 1.8 mmol/l, chloride 112 mmol/l and lactate 28 mmol/l.The other ingredient is water for injections.The theoretical osmolarity is 277 mOsm/l, the titration acidity is less than 1 mmol/l and the pH is between 5.0 and 7.0.

Dosage and application

Dosage will be determined by a doctor or healthcare professional based on individual fluid and electrolyte needs.The recommended dosages for adults and adolescents are up to 40 ml per kg body weight per day, with a maximum infusion rate of 5 ml per kg body weight per day.For children, the dosage is 20 ml to 100 ml per kg body weight per day, with an average infusion rate of 5 ml per kg body weight per day.Older patients generally receive the same dosage as adults, but with caution if they have other illnesses such as heart failure or impaired kidney function.Burn patients receive specific dosages based on their age and the extent of the burns.
